Theatre, dance, and performances at sunset in the Santa Croce Garden in Tuscania
The Tramonti Festival is one of the most poetic summer events in the Tuscia region: a showcase of theatre, dance, and performance that brings Friday evenings in Tuscania, in the province of Viterbo, to life. The stage is the Garden of the former Santa Croce Temple in Piazza Francesco Basile, an evocative space transformed for the occasion into a meeting point between performing arts and the public. Shows start at 7:30 PM, when the sunset light envelops the stone and greenery of the garden, and are accompanied by a small welcome aperitif included in the ticket price.
The festival is curated by Twain Centro di Produzione Danza, a recognized leader in live performance in the Lazio region, active in the production, training, and promotion of dance and performing arts. Artistic direction is entrusted to choreographer Loredana Parrella, who crafts a program each year focused on contemporary languages and the relationship between human beings and othersโa thematic thread running through the various editions. The project is realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region, and the Municipality of Tuscania.
The event began in 2021 as "Tramonti a Santa Croce," a series of evening appointments featuring music, dance, and theatre in the gardens of the former temple. The format has solidified over the years: in 2023 and 2024, the festival hosted productions by companies such as Borderlinedanza, ASMED โ Balletto di Sardegna, ArtGarage, Naturalis Labor, and EgriBianco Danza, while the 2025 edition brought the Mandala Dance Company and the Spellbound Contemporary Ballet to Tuscania. This journey has established the Tuscia town as a small hub for Italian contemporary dance in the summer.
The 2026 edition runs from July 10th to 31st, featuring four evenings on the bill and five performances. Opening the festival is the Balletto Teatro di Torino with "I Love You, Schubert!" choreographed by Manfredi Perego; followed by "Silence" by ArtGarage with choreography by Emma Cianchi, "La sposa del vento" by the Settimo Cielo company, a performance inspired by the works of Oskar Kokoschka, and the closing night featuring "Fitting" by Compagnia Hunt and "Naufraghi" by Naturalis Labor, directed by Luciano Padovani.
The 2026 edition of the Tramonti Festival takes place from July 10th to 31st at the Santa Croce Garden in Tuscania, under the artistic direction of Loredana Parrella and curated by Twain Centro di Produzione Danza. The theme running through the program is the relationship between ourselves and others, explored through the languages of contemporary dance, theatre, and performance. All shows begin at 7:30 PM and are preceded by a welcome aperitif included in the 5-euro single ticket. The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region, and the Municipality of Tuscania.
