Five days of chamber music in the Gonzaga palaces
Trame Sonore is organized by Oficina OCM with the artistic direction of Carlo Fabiano and has established itself as one of the most original chamber music festivals in Europe. Its formula is unmistakable: instead of concentrating concerts in a single hall, it distributes hundreds of performances in the most beautiful locations in Mantua, allowing the public to move freely from one performance to another.
During the five days of the festival, over 150 concerts are held, with around 300 musicians in thirty different venues: the Palazzo Ducale, Giulio Romano's Palazzo Te, the historic Teatro Bibiena designed by Antonio Bibiena and admired by Mozart, as well as courtyards, frescoed halls, and squares in the city center. The program is built around thematic "plots" that intertwine repertoire and performers.
Each edition hosts an artist in residence and a constellation of internationally renowned soloists and chamber ensembles. The proximity between musicians and the audience, in often intimate spaces, is the distinctive feature of Trame Sonore: a close-up and engaging listening experience, far from the formality of the grand concert hall.
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Mantua (Province of Mantua) has a musical history rooted in the court of the Gonzaga family, where Claudio Monteverdi worked. Trame Sonore reconnects that thread, making the city a meeting point for enthusiasts and performers from all over Europe, between late May and early June.
From May 29 to June 2, 2026, Mantua hosts the 14th edition of Trame Sonore, with artistic direction by Carlo Fabiano and organization by Oficina OCM. Five days, over 150 concerts, and around 300 musicians in thirty venues in the historic center.
The program is structured around twelve "plots" that intertwine repertoire and performers. The artist in residence for this edition is pianist Alexander Lonquich. Concerts take place in Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Te, Teatro Bibiena, historic squares, and courtyards.
Over 150 concerts spread over five days, from May 29 to June 2, in 30 locations in Mantua. The audience can move freely from one performance to another thanks to the season pass formula.
The festival is organized around 12 thematic plots that serve as a common thread between the various concerts, intertwining composers, eras, and ensembles.
The complete daily program, with times and venues for each concert, is published on the official website tramesonore.it.
