About Trail dell'Osservanza

The Trail dell'Osservanza is a spring eco-trail race held in Tocco da Casauria, in the province of Pescara, at the foot of Mount Morrone and the Majella massif. Starting and finishing at the evocative Convento di Santa Maria del Paradiso, the event features a 12 km competitive dirt-track race with a 600-meter elevation gain, alongside a more relaxed walk open to everyone. Organized by Tocco Runner, the trail annually kicks off the Corrilabruzzo UISP circuit, blending sport, nature, and local heritage.

An eco-trail between sport and territory

The Trail dell'Osservanza, also known as the Ecotrail dell'Osservanza, is one of the most anticipated running events of the Abruzzo spring. It takes place in Tocco da Casauria, a village in the province of Pescara nestled between Mount Morrone and the Majella massif, in the green heart of Abruzzo. The race was created to combine a passion for trail running with the discovery of a fascinating natural landscape, featuring dirt paths, forests, and mountain panoramas.

The route and the Convento del Paradiso

The logistical hub of the event is the Convento di Santa Maria del Paradiso, an ancient 15th-century Franciscan complex located on a hill outside the town in the Paradiso area, offering spectacular views of the Morrone and Majella mountains. From here, participants set off on a 12-kilometer competitive dirt-track course with approximately 600 meters of elevation gain: a challenging route that alternates technical climbs with fast sections, complete with refreshment points along the way. For non-competitors, a non-competitive walk of about 6–6.5 kilometers is available, accompanied by a guide, designed for families and trekking enthusiasts who want to enjoy the day at a slower pace immersed in nature.

The Corrilabruzzo UISP circuit

The Trail dell'Osservanza traditionally represents the first stage of the Corrilabruzzo UISP circuit, the regional series of road and trail races that energizes the entire Abruzzo running season. Opening the calendar is a role that the Tocco da Casauria race performs with pride, attracting dozens of sports clubs from across the region. The event is organized by the Tocco Runner association, led by president Gianluca Crisante, with the support of numerous volunteers who manage hospitality, refreshments, and the final awards ceremony at the convent.

Nature, community, and local heritage

More than just a competition, the Ecotrail dell'Osservanza is a celebration of the local area: the event promotes the bond between sport and the environment, inviting runners and walkers to discover the trails and iconic landmarks of Tocco da Casauria. The day combines the competitive spirit of the runners with the conviviality of the village, featuring moments of solidarity and the participation of sports clubs that use running as a vehicle for community building. Immersed in the landscape of inland Abruzzo, among mountains, olive groves, and ancient religious buildings, the trail is an ideal opportunity to spend a Sunday outdoors in the name of sport and nature.
