About Trail Ballando

Trail Ballando is the nature run that every year, at the beginning of spring, enlivens Rivergaro and the hills above Val Trebbia, in the province of Piacenza. Organized by Pro Loco Tramballando together with A.S.D. PasSport, it offers two competitive races (30 and 16 km) and a 14 km non-competitive walk open to all, with start and finish on the Lungo Trebbia. Sport, nature, and charity intertwine: the proceeds of the event are donated each year to a local solidarity cause in the Piacenza area.

Running through the hills of Val Trebbia

Trail Ballando is one of the most anticipated events of spring trail running in the province of Piacenza. The event takes place in Rivergaro, a charming town overlooking the Trebbia river, and takes participants to discover the trails, dirt roads, and single tracks that climb the hills above, in a typical Apennine natural amphitheater of Emilia-Romagna.

Organized by Pro Loco Tramballando in collaboration with A.S.D. PasSport, Trail Ballando has combined three ingredients for years: sport, nature, and charity. It's not just a race, but a village festival that attracts enthusiasts not only from the Piacenza area but also from Lombardy, Piedmont, and Veneto.

The three routes

The offering is designed to satisfy both the most trained athletes and those simply looking for a walk immersed in nature:

  • Trail Long — approximately 30 km with 1,250 meters of positive elevation gain, along the ridges above Rivergaro;
  • Trail Curt — approximately 16 km with 650 meters of positive elevation gain, on the same hills but in a shorter version;
  • Non-competitive walk — approximately 14 km, open to all, ideal for families and walkers.

The start and finish are set on the Lungo Trebbia, on the riverbank, where the Pro Loco sets up the day's headquarters.

The solidarity spirit

Trail Ballando has a charitable purpose: the proceeds are donated each year to a local health or social organization. Running or walking at Trail Ballando therefore means enjoying a spectacular landscape and, at the same time, contributing to a good cause.

An event rooted in Rivergaro

Born as an initiative of the community of Rivergaro, in Val Trebbia, Trail Ballando has grown edition after edition to become a classic of the running calendar in the province of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna. The natural setting of the valley, with the river, the woods, and the hillside villages, makes the experience suitable for both experienced trail runners and those taking their first steps in mountain running.

Trail Ballando — edition 2026

The 12th edition of Trail Ballando was held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Rivergaro, Val Trebbia. Three routes were offered – the 30 km Trail Long, the 16 km Trail Curt, and the 14 km non-competitive walk – with start and finish on the Lungo Trebbia. The 2026 edition featured a route change compared to previous years, confirming the formula that combines sport, nature, and charity.

The 2026 edition of Trail Ballando took place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Rivergaro, province of Piacenza. The event, organized by Pro Loco Tramballando together with A.S.D. PasSport, re-proposed the tested formula with two competitive races and a walk open to all, but with a route change compared to previous editions.

As tradition dictates, the event maintained its solidarity spirit, with proceeds donated to a charitable cause in the Piacenza area. Participation also came from outside the region, from Lombardy, Piedmont, and Veneto.
