International festival of modern and contemporary music in Parma
For over thirty years, Traiettorie has been one of the most authoritative events in Italy dedicated to modern and contemporary music. The festival was born and grew in Parma, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, a city with a long musical tradition, home to Giuseppe Verdi and Arturo Toscanini. It is organized by the Fondazione Prometeo, a center for research, production, and training in the field of new music and new technologies, under the artistic direction of composer Martino Traversa.
What makes Traiettorie a unique experience is the dialogue between the music of the present and the historical and technological spaces of the city. The concerts take place in five excellent venues:
The Traiettorie program blends masterpieces of the second half of the 20th century with the most recent pages of the international repertoire, giving ample space to world premieres and commissions from the Foundation. World-class soloists and specialized ensembles alternate on stage, often accompanied by electronics and acousmatic music, which has always been a distinctive feature of the festival.
More than just a calendar of concerts, Traiettorie is a journey that invites the public—enthusiasts and the curious alike—to explore new sonic territories. In Parma, recognized as a UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy and a Capital of Culture, the festival confirms the Emilian capital's vocation for avant-garde art and rigorous sound research.
The XXXVI edition of Traiettorie marks a turning point in its formula: the Fondazione Prometeo festival transforms into a festival of seventeen concerts concentrated over two weeks, from May 9 to 23, 2026, spread across Teatro Farnese, Casa della Musica, Casa del Suono, CPM Toscanini, and Ridotto del Teatro Regio.
The common thread is the centenary of Morton Feldman's birth: ten concerts dialogue with the work of the American composer, intertwining it with pieces from the late 20th century and contemporary music. The program includes ten solo concerts—five of which are piano recitals—four ensembles, and the usual event dedicated to acousmatic electronic music.
The program is complemented by several meetings and conferences, including "Darmstadt Sonicals" with Yaron Deutsch (May 13) and a tribute to Fausto Romitelli (May 17).
Parma is easily reachable by train (Parma station on the Milan-Bologna high-speed line) and by car via the A1 motorway. The festival venues are all located in the historic center, within walking distance of each other.
Tickets are on sale on Vivaticket and at the box offices of the venues on the evening of the concerts (usually from 7:30 PM). Reduced rates are available for over 65s and affiliated members.
