Three days of Ferragosto in the Biscubio Park dedicated to the poor sweet of Apecchio
There is a dessert in Apecchio, in the mountainous heart of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, that is worth more than a thousand words: bostrengo. Every year, around Ferragosto, the town dedicates three days of celebration to it in the Biscubio Park, the municipal green area that comes alive with tables, scents, and music. The Traditional Feast of Bostrengo is not just any fair: it is the way this community from the Marche keeps the memory of its peasant cuisine alive and shares it with those who come up here, among the Apennine woods and the Montefeltro hills.
Bostrengo is the classic "pantry-clearing dish": born from the need to not throw anything away. Stale bread, flour, walnuts, apples, dried figs, raisins, sugar, cornmeal, and orange zest are mixed into a dark, fragrant dough, slowly baked in the oven. In Apecchio, the recipe has been passed down for generations and has obtained the De.C.O. (Municipal Designation of Origin), which protects its historic version: the Apecchio version preserves the original centuries-old dough, without modern additions. Tasting it during the festival means savoring an authentic piece of tradition, prepared according to the hands of the village grandmothers.
The event unfolds over three Ferragosto evenings. Alongside the absolute star, bostrengo, the food stalls offer typical dishes of Apecchio's tradition, in a journey of flavors that tells the identity of the territory. The evenings are accompanied by music and dancing, while games and entertainment moments involve families and children. The atmosphere is that of genuine Marche village festivals: convivial, popular, unpretentious, where people sit at tables side-by-side and chat outdoors until late at night, in the cool of the park.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Apecchio and its territory. A village in the upper Metauro valley overlooking Monte Nerone, Apecchio is known for its food and wine vocation: besides bostrengo, it boasts other De.C.O. products such as the "coradella d'agnello di Serravalle di Carda" and "salmì del prete", and is famous as a small capital of artisanal mountain beer. A visit during the Feast of Bostrengo allows you to combine tasting the sweet with discovering an authentic corner of the inland Marche.
The Traditional Feast of Bostrengo 2026 takes place in Apecchio (PU) on August 14, 15, and 16, in the usual setting of Biscubio Park. The organization is entrusted to ASD Viridissima along with Pro Loco Apecchio.
As tradition dictates, the three evenings revolve around bostrengo, the village's poor De.C.O. sweet, alongside stands with typical Apecchio cuisine dishes, music and dancing, and games for adults and children. The detailed program, with schedules and evening guests, is usually released by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event on the Pro Loco of Apecchio's channels.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with the schedules and events for the three evenings, will be announced by the organizers (ASD Viridissima and Pro Loco Apecchio) in the weeks leading up to Ferragosto.
Based on the usual structure of the festival, the three days will include:
Tasting of De.C.O. bostrengo, the symbolic sweet of Apecchio, in Biscubio Park, accompanied by local traditional dishes and Ferragosto dancing evenings.
The festival is held during Ferragosto at Parco del Biscubio, the municipal green area of Apecchio (PU), in the Marche region. The 2026 edition is scheduled for August 14, 15, and 16.
Apecchio can be reached by car from the Fano highway exit (A14), continuing along the Fano-Grosseto expressway and then towards the hinterland in the direction of Monte Nerone; alternatively from Città di Castello (E45). There is no direct train connection: the nearest useful station is Fano, from which to continue by car.
Access to the festival area is free; you only pay for what you consume at the food stalls. Comfortable clothing is recommended for the mountain evening, where temperatures can drop even in summer. For updated information, it is useful to follow the channels of the Pro Loco of Apecchio.
