Tra Terra e Stelle: theater inhabits the villages of Garfagnana

Tra Terra e Stelle is a regional theater festival that, in the summer of 2026, reaches its third edition, bringing live performances to the most ancient and evocative villages of inland Tuscany. The festival is itinerant: each evening takes place in a different municipality, building a cultural network that connects the Pisa area and the Garfagnana. Among the stops on the tour is Torrite, a hamlet in the municipality of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca, in the heart of the Tuscan mountains.

The festival arrives in Torrite on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with the show "In Onda" by the Compagnia Semi Volanti, the theater group that curates the entire festival. Admission is free, as it is for all events on the program. The evening is part of a project to promote inland areas, where theater becomes an opportunity for meeting and discovering places often off the beaten track.

A widespread festival in inland Tuscany

The 2026 edition runs from July 1 to August 14 and features 16 free-admission shows, with companies from all over Italy, from Bari to Lecco and Florence. The program ranges from poetry and irony to comedy, with site-specific productions designed specifically for the host village. The project involves 14 municipal administrations in the provinces of Pisa and Lucca, with the Municipality of Chianni acting as the lead partner. In Garfagnana, the festival visits, in addition to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Pieve Fosciana, Borgo a Mozzano, Fosciandora, and Molazzana.

More than just shows

Tra Terra e Stelle is not just theater: the program includes theater workshops for all ages, landscape photography workshops led by photographer Giacomo Saviozzi, outdoor dinners, exhibitions, and special museum openings. The goal is to combine culture, tourism, and social life, supporting the economy and identity of small inland towns.

Artistic direction and organization

The artistic direction is entrusted to Eva Malacarne, while the organization is managed by the Compagnia Semi Volanti. The festival is supported by the Tuscany North-West Chamber of Commerce and carried out in collaboration with the involved municipalities. The Torrite stop, in the territory of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, confirms the festival's deep roots in Tuscany and its bond with the communities of the Garfagnana.
