Traveling theatre in the villages of Garfagnana: the Sillico stop
Tra Terra e Stelle is a traveling theatre festival that, in the summer of 2026, reaches its third edition, bringing live performances to the most ancient villages of inland Tuscany. Each evening takes place in a different municipality, building a cultural network that connects the Pisa area and the Garfagnana. Among the stops on the tour is Sillico, a charming medieval village and hamlet of the municipality of Pieve Fosciana, in the province of Lucca, perched on the Apennine slopes of the Garfagnana at an altitude of about 700 metres.
The festival arrives in Sillico with two consecutive events. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the play "Camille Claudel" by the Compagnia Semi Volantiโthe theatre group that curates the entire festivalโwill be performed. On Sunday, July 26, 2026, the village will host "Questione di sguardi", a landscape photography workshop led by photographer Giacomo Saviozzi. All events are free of charge, as is the entire festival programme.
The 2026 edition runs from July 1 to August 14 and features 16 free performances, with companies coming from all over Italy, from Bari to Lecco and Florence. The programme ranges from poetry and irony to comedy, with site-specific productions designed specifically for the host villages. The project involves 14 municipal administrations between the provinces of Pisa and Lucca, with the Municipality of Chianni acting as the lead partner. In the Garfagnana, the festival reaches, in addition to Pieve Fosciana, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Borgo a Mozzano, Fosciandora, and Molazzana.
Tra Terra e Stelle is not just about performance: the programme includes theatre workshops for all ages, landscape photography workshops led by Giacomo Saviozzi, outdoor dinners, exhibitions, and special openings of local landmarks. The goal is to combine culture, tourism, and social interaction, supporting the economy and identity of the small towns in the Tuscan hinterland. The village of Sillico, with its medieval tower and remains of the walls, offers an ideal setting for open-air theatre.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Eva Malacarne, while the organization is handled by the Compagnia Semi Volanti. The festival is supported by the Tuscany North-West Chamber of Commerce, the Cassa di Risparmio Foundations of Lucca and Volterra, and partners such as Unicoop Firenze, Toscana Energia, and CNA Pisa. The Sillico stop confirms the festival's roots in Tuscany and its bond with the communities of the Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca.
