The secular fair of Saints Simon and Jude, featuring tripe and tradition
In the hamlet of Tovena, in Cison di Valmarino, province of Treviso, an event with ancient roots is renewed every October: the Secular Fair of Saints Simon and Jude, now part of the "Tovena in Festa" event. This is a "fiera franca" – an ancient form of duty-free market – that has marked the autumn of this hilly village for centuries, linked to the feast day of the patron saints Simon and Jude.
The gastronomic heart of the festival is the renowned trippa alla tovenese, a specialty that draws visitors from all over the Marca Trevigiana region. This signature dish is the centerpiece of a food and wine offering that celebrates local specialties, fostering a convivial atmosphere and promoting local culture. It's no coincidence that since 2022, the event has been recognized as a national "Sagra di Qualità".
"Tovena in Festa" is more than just food: the fair brings a funfair, stalls, and music stands to the village, with entertainment for all ages. The program also includes guided tours and excursions to explore the hilly territory of Tovena, amidst the charm of Passo San Boldo and the Treviso Prealps.
Organized by Pro Loco Tovena, the fair is much more than a local festival; it's a moment for the hamlet to share its identity and welcome visitors, blending patronal devotion, market tradition, gastronomy, and community spirit. An authentic event in the hilly Veneto region, within the municipality of Cison di Valmarino, one of "I Borghi più belli d'Italia" (The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy).
Tovena in Festa, the Secular Fair of Saints Simon and Jude, will return to Tovena in October 2026, continuing a long-standing tradition linked to the patron saints. The fair will again feature its signature dish, trippa alla tovenese, along with a funfair, stalls, music stands, and guided excursions to discover the local area.
The official dates and full schedule for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: they will be announced by Pro Loco Tovena in the weeks leading up to the fair.
