Three days of tradition, craftsmanship, and farm-to-table cuisine in the village of Torre in Pietra
The Torre Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Torre in Pietra (also known as Torrimpietra), an agricultural hamlet in the Municipality of Fiumicino, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio. For three evenings in late June, the heart of the village — the area between Piazza dei Tipografi and Via Francesco Marcolini — transforms into a large open-air meeting space, with stalls, lights, music, and tables set under the sky of the Roman countryside. It is a community festival in the most authentic sense: organized by the Pro Loco of Torre in Pietra, with the patronage of the Fiumicino municipal administration, and brought to life primarily by the local residents.
To understand the Torre Festival, one must know the history of the place. Torre in Pietra is a rural village that grew around the castle of the same name, thanks to the Torre in Pietra Land Reclamation, started in 1926: an intervention that reclaimed hundreds of hectares of land from the marsh and shaped the agricultural landscape that still characterizes this part of the Roman coast, between Fiumicino and Cerveteri. From that work descend the farms, stables, and dairy tradition that have made the name of Torre in Pietra familiar throughout Lazio. In 2026, the festival coincided with the centenary of the Land Reclamation, taking on a special commemorative value for the entire community.
The rhythm of the evenings is simple and well-tested. From late afternoon, the craft and gift stalls open, featuring local exhibitors and small workshops offering handmade goods, artistic creations, and curiosities. In parallel, the funfair lights up, with rides, tagadà, games, and attractions designed for children and families: it is the reason why the festival remains, year after year, a childhood memory for those who grow up in Torrimpietra.
The gastronomic soul of the event is the food and wine area, which opens in the evening and offers dishes prepared with farm-to-table products, a direct expression of the territory's agricultural vocation. This is not a single-theme food festival but a village kitchen that highlights local excellence: vegetables from the reclaimed countryside, cheeses, meats, and traditional Lazio first courses. You eat seated, among the people, with popular prices — the classic formula of Roman summer festivals.
Each evening ends with a show on the stage set up in the village. The program alternates children's entertainment, musical performances, dance shows, and comedy moments, with companies and artists arriving mainly from the Roman territory. The final Sunday evening has a special meaning: before the final show, scholarships are awarded to deserving students from the village's primary and secondary schools, a gesture that perfectly summarizes the spirit of the event — having fun together, but also recognizing and supporting those growing up in the village.
The Torre Festival is not a major tourist event, and it does not pretend to be. It is an opportunity to see up close a popular festival of the Lazio coast still tied to its land, just a few kilometers from Fiumicino airport and half an hour's drive from Rome. For those staying on the coast — Fregene, Maccarese, Passoscuro, Ladispoli — it is an alternative evening to the beach, free and suitable for all ages; for those arriving from Rome, it is a taste of that Roman countryside that one often passes through without ever stopping.
The 2026 edition of the Torre Festival, the nineteenth, had a special meaning: it fell in the year of the centenary of the Torre in Pietra Land Reclamation, founded in 1926, the work that gave rise to the village and the agricultural landscape of this part of the Municipality of Fiumicino. The event was held from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28, in the area between Piazza dei Tipografi and Via Francesco Marcolini, with free entry.
Every evening, starting at 5:30 PM, the craft and gift stalls opened along with the funfair with rides and attractions for children; from 7:30 PM, the food and wine area began operating with dishes prepared with farm-to-table products, telling the story of the territory's agricultural vocation. The final Sunday hosted a musical and artistic show, the awarding of scholarships to two deserving students from primary and secondary schools, and, in closing, the dance and music show by the Fratelli Hernandez with Caribbean and Latin American rhythms.
