The Tyrolean evening hosted by the Volunteer Fire Brigade of Santa Maddalena, in Val di Funes
The Tirolerabend der FF St. Magdalena is the summer folk festival organized by the Volunteer Fire Brigade (Freiwillige Feuerwehr) of the village of Santa Maddalena, in the municipality of Funes/Villnöß, in the autonomous province of Bolzano/Bozen (Trentino-Alto Adige). The event takes place on the Bergerplatz in St. Magdalena, a small village overlooking the famous Odle (Geisler) peaks, one of the most photographed landscapes in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
The evening is part of the great South Tyrolean Tirolerabende tradition, open-air festivals enlivened by local associations. From 6:00 PM, the Bergerplatz transforms into a lively meeting point: the atmosphere is filled with live music, while the valley's young Schuhplattler dancers perform their traditional costumes. There is also a farmers' market featuring local products.
The heart of the festival is the Tyrolean cuisine, prepared by the volunteers. Specialties served include:
Dishes can be enjoyed on-site or taken away.
The Tirolerabend is more than just a festival: it is a moment of solidarity where the community supports its Volunteer Fire Brigade, a vital pillar for the valley's safety. For visitors, it offers an authentic opportunity to experience South Tyrolean culture away from mass tourism, immersed in the landscape of Val di Funes and the Puez-Odle Nature Park.
