A Tyrolean evening at the foot of the Odle

The Tirolerabend der FF St. Magdalena is the summer folk festival organized by the Volunteer Fire Brigade (Freiwillige Feuerwehr) of the village of Santa Maddalena, in the municipality of Funes/Villnöß, in the autonomous province of Bolzano/Bozen (Trentino-Alto Adige). The event takes place on the Bergerplatz in St. Magdalena, a small village overlooking the famous Odle (Geisler) peaks, one of the most photographed landscapes in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

Tradition, music, and community

The evening is part of the great South Tyrolean Tirolerabende tradition, open-air festivals enlivened by local associations. From 6:00 PM, the Bergerplatz transforms into a lively meeting point: the atmosphere is filled with live music, while the valley's young Schuhplattler dancers perform their traditional costumes. There is also a farmers' market featuring local products.

South Tyrolean culinary specialties

The heart of the festival is the Tyrolean cuisine, prepared by the volunteers. Specialties served include:

• Tirtler — traditional savory fritters stuffed with spinach or sauerkraut;
• Krapfen — fried filled pastries, a staple of the South Tyrolean valleys;
• Strauben — spiral-shaped sweet fritters dusted with sugar;
• Grilled dishes and other specialties cooked on-site.

Dishes can be enjoyed on-site or taken away.
