The Tindari Festival arrives in Librizzi, in the Nebrodi mountains, as part of the Tindari Itinerante section
The Librizzi stage is one of the events in the Tindari Itinerante section of the Tindari Festival, the historic summer festival of theatre, music, and culture that has been based at the Ancient Theatre of Tindari in Patti since 1956. For several editions, the festival has chosen to step out of the famous Greco-Roman stage to reach the villages of the Messina area, and Librizzi, a small town in the Nebrodi mountains in the Province of Messina, is among the locations involved in this widespread cultural and community narrative.
The performance takes place in the scenic Piazza Catena, in the historic center of Librizzi. The square, overlooking the hilly landscape that slopes down from the Nebrodi towards the Tyrrhenian coast, offers spectators an intimate and cozy atmosphere, far from the mass tourism of the coast, where theatre and live music engage with the history and identity of the village.
The Tindari Itinerante section was born from the desire of artistic director Mario Incudine to make the festival not just a lineup of big names at the Ancient Theatre, but a cultural project capable of involving the entire territory. In addition to Librizzi, the section visits various municipalities in the Messina area such as Raccuja, Piraino, Gioiosa Marea, Sinagra, Montagnareale, and Sant'Angelo di Brolo, bringing theatrical performances, readings, and musical acts to the squares and iconic landmarks of each town.
The programming for the Librizzi stage is part of the overall spirit of the 70th edition, dedicated to the theme of Abumanesimo and the figure of the playwright from Patti, Beniamino Joppolo, on the 120th anniversary of his birth. The performances proposed in the municipalities often highlight the language, dialect, and popular Sicilian culture, in line with a dramaturgy attentive to the roots and memory of the island's communities.
Librizzi is a village in the Messina hinterland overlooking the Nebrodi area, one of the most evocative mountain zones in Sicily. Attending a Tindari Festival performance in this context means discovering a lesser-known side of the island, made of hills, ancient historic centers, and living traditions, and experiencing live culture in a small town that, for one evening, becomes the protagonist of the great Sicilian summer of theatre and music.
The Librizzi stage of the 70th edition of the Tindari Festival takes place on August 8, 2026, at 8:30 PM, in the picturesque Piazza Catena. The event is part of the Tindari Itinerante section, which takes the festival outside the Ancient Theatre of Tindari to reach the municipalities of the Messina area.
On stage is the performance "Li fomni" by Flavia Gallo, with Eleonora Bordonaro and Diana Tejera, presented as a national premiere. The evening weaves together theatre, music, and folk singing, highlighting the traditional Sicilian language and culture. The proposal is part of the core theme of the 2026 edition, "Abumanesimo — l'essere, il non essere, il perire" (Abumanism — being, not being, perishing), dedicated to the playwright from Patti, Beniamino Joppolo, on the 120th anniversary of his birth.
"Li fomni" is a work that focuses on women, their voices, and their memories through theatrical words and song. Eleonora Bordonaro, a singer and performer known for her research into folk traditions and Sicilian dialects, and singer-songwriter Diana Tejera bring to the stage a blend of theatre and music written by Flavia Gallo, in line with the festival's commitment to highlighting the island's cultural roots.
The Librizzi stage is one of the dates spread across the territory: the Tindari Itinerante section also involves the municipalities of Raccuja, Piraino, Gioiosa Marea, Sinagra, Montagnareale, and Sant'Angelo di Brolo. The complete program of the 70th edition (July 3 – August 30, 2026), with 33 events and 14 national premieres, is available on the festival's official website.
Librizzi is located in the hilly hinterland in the Province of Messina, on the slopes of the Nebrodi mountains. By car: from the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, take the Patti-San Piero Patti exit, then continue inland following the signs for Librizzi. By train: Patti-San Piero Patti station on the Tyrrhenian line, then continue by provincial road.
Tindari Festival tickets are available on the official circuit (tindarifestival.organizzatori.18tickets.it) and through the festival's channels. For the Tindari Itinerante section stages, it is recommended to check access methods and prices on the official website and at the Municipality of Librizzi.
The performance takes place in the evening outdoors in Piazza Catena: it is advisable to bring a light jacket for the evening and arrive early to secure a seat.
