A Carnival of Theatre and Tradition
In Avigliano Umbro, in the province of Terni, carnival takes on the characteristics of a true cultural project. "Il Trionfo del Carnevale" focuses on the Umbrian Masks of the Commedia dell'Arte: Nasotorto, Rosalinda, Nasoacciaccato, and Chicchirichella, characters who embody the theatrical and popular spirit of regional tradition.

The program intertwines theatre performances dedicated to schools, workshops, and festive moments. The heart of the initiative is the Oliviero Piacenti Prize for Creativity, which on Fat Tuesday awards theatrical performances and poems inspired by the masks, created by students, at the municipal theatre.

A Widespread Carnival
The event extends beyond the borders of Avigliano Umbro to involve the neighboring municipalities of Montecastrilli, Massa Martana, and Castel dell'Aquila, where the theatre performance is replicated. The finale is marked by the traditional burning of Pippinaccio in Piazza Piave, a symbol of the end of carnival.

Avigliano Umbro is in the province of Terni, on the Todi-Amelia route. By car from the E45 (exit towards Todi) or from the SS Amerina. Nearest train stations: Terni and Todi.

The performances are mainly held at the Municipal Theatre of Avigliano Umbro and in the municipalities of Montecastrilli, Massa Martana, and Castel dell'Aquila. Events are free admission, unless otherwise indicated. Organization by the Municipality and local cultural organizations.
