Theatre meets nature in the open-air amphitheatre of the Circeo National Park in Sabaudia
The Park and the Comedy is one of the most recognizable and well-attended summer theatre festivals in southern Lazio. Established in 2011, it takes place every year between July and August in the evocative open-air amphitheatre of the Circeo National Park Visitor Centre, located on Via Carlo Alberto in Sabaudia—a planned town overlooking the sea and Lake Paola in the province of Latina. Here, theatre literally meets nature: spectators enjoy performances surrounded by the park's lush vegetation, creating a unique atmosphere for every evening.
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco Sabaudia Association, in collaboration with the Circeo National Park Authority and the Municipality of Sabaudia, with the patronage of the Lazio Region, the Province of Latina, Confcommercio Lazio Sud, and the UILT (Italian Union of Amateur Theatre). Since its first edition, admission to all shows has been free: a choice that has turned the festival into a true pillar of popular culture, attracting residents and tourists vacationing on the Pontine coast every summer.
The schedule alternates between brilliant comedies—with a preference for the great Neapolitan repertoire of Eduardo De Filippo—storytelling, poetic performances, contemporary productions, and children's theatre, brought to the stage by amateur and professional companies from all over Italy. There is also a focus on social and inclusive projects, such as initiatives dedicated to people with autism spectrum disorders, as well as theatre workshops for children and adults led by industry professionals.
The 15th edition, scheduled from July 18 to August 2, 2026, offers eighteen events dedicated to the theme of bonds: relationships between parents and children, man and nature, memory and identity, community and territory, as well as love, imagination, and childhood. The programme includes, among others, the Eduardo De Filippo comedy «Sogno di una notte di mezza sbornia» by the Insieme per Caso company, the adaptation of «The Little Prince» by Matutateatro, and the monologue «Fiato di Madre» by Sergio Vespertino.
Attending a show at the festival is also an opportunity to discover Sabaudia, a jewel of rationalist architecture founded in 1934, and the Circeo National Park, one of the oldest protected areas in Italy, featuring the Circeo promontory, the state forest, coastal lakes, and kilometres of sandy dunes. A blend of landscape and culture that makes The Park and the Comedy an unmissable event of the Lazio summer.
From July 18 to August 2, 2026, the amphitheatre of the Circeo National Park hosts the fifteenth edition of the festival promoted by the Pro Loco Sabaudia, in collaboration with the Park Authority and the Municipality of Sabaudia, with the patronage of the Lazio Region, the Province of Latina, Confcommercio Lazio Sud, and the UILT. Eighteen events, all free, dedicated to the theme of bonds in their various forms.
The opening night on Saturday, July 18, begins with «Prima che sia Prima», an inclusion project for people with autism spectrum disorders curated by AICAB APS with the Teatro degli Eroi of Rome, followed by the Eduardo De Filippo comedy «Sogno di una notte di mezza sbornia» performed by the Insieme per Caso company, directed by Angelo Grieco. The programme continues with the adaptation of «The Little Prince» by Matutateatro, the children's show «Maga Mary It's Magic», the monologue «Fiato di Madre» by Sergio Vespertino, and the comedy «I Dentici», leading up to the grand finale on Sunday, August 2.
The complete programme includes eighteen shows ranging from comedies and storytelling to poetic performances and children's theatre: the full calendar is published on the Pro Loco Sabaudia channels.
The amphitheatre of the Circeo National Park Visitor Centre is located at Via Carlo Alberto 188, Sabaudia (LT). By car: take the SS148 Pontina from Rome (approx. 90 km) or from Latina, exit at Sabaudia. By train: Priverno-Fossanova station on the Rome-Naples line, then take the COTRAL bus to Sabaudia.
All shows are free of charge, subject to availability. Evening performances generally start at 9:00 PM; children's shows may start at 6:30 PM.
Arrive early to secure a seat, bring a light jacket for the evening, and insect repellent: you are immersed in the nature of the park.
