A night of traditional European music and dances in Sogliano al Rubicone
La Notte delle Danze is a popular festival that enlivens the village of Sogliano al Rubicone, in the hills of the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. For one evening, the town transforms into a large space for shared dancing, where the roots of traditions are rediscovered to the rhythm of live music. The idea is simple and contagious: everyone dances together, even those who have never danced before, letting themselves be guided step by step by the musicians and dancers.
The event is the first seasonal appointment of the Monti Orfici series, the distributed festival conceived by the company Teatro Zigoia. Launched in 2021, Monti Orfici is much more than a series: it unfolds between spring and autumn in various locations in the Apennines and transforms landscapes into shared stages, intertwining workshops, concerts, performances, and traditional folk songs and dances. The philosophy is one of suspended time that recovers ancient roots to respond to contemporary needs, where the visitor is not a passive spectator but an active part of the celebration.
The day is divided into two parts. In the afternoon, there are dance workshops, designed also for beginners: you learn Piedmontese dances and balfolk, or singing dances, musical forms where voice and movement intertwine. In the evening, the dance party open to everyone begins, with guidance and musical accompaniment from traditional music groups.
The heart of the festival is balfolk, the European folk dance that unites and makes people feel good. On stage, groups alternate, bringing music and dances from different territories: Piedmont and the Franco-Occitan repertoire with Balarù, the Franco-Italian tradition with Di Doux (the duo formed by Sara Pierleoni and Giuseppe Grassi), traditional dances with Viva el Ball, and Romagna's ethnic music with L'Uva Grisa, a historic group born in Bellaria Igea Marina in 1981 dedicated to Romagna's traditional culture.
La Notte delle Danze is a convivial and family-friendly event, with a refreshment area offering typical local products. It's an opportunity to discover Sogliano al Rubicone, a town known throughout Italy also for its Formaggio di Fossa (aged cheese), and to experience a different evening, made of music, meeting, and movement.
The second edition of La Notte delle Danze took place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Sogliano al Rubicone, inaugurating the 2026 season of the Monti Orfici series by Teatro Zigoia. The event celebrated the beauty of the village to the rhythm of dance, between hyper-local traditions and folk dances from all over Europe.
The afternoon was dedicated to workshops, while in the evening the town came alive with a dance party open to the entire community. Music and dance were the protagonists as a universal language to break down social barriers and bring people together.
