The Christmas village in the medieval town of Aquino, in Ciociaria
Every year, as winter arrives, the historic center of Aquino — a small town in the province of Frosinone, in Ciociaria and more broadly in the heart of southern Lazio — gets dressed up for the holidays to host The Magical Santa Claus Village. In the charming Piazza San Tommaso d'Aquino and along the streets of the medieval village, lights, decorations, and scenery recreate the enchantment of the North Pole, turning the town that gave birth to the philosopher Saint Thomas into one of the most beloved Christmas destinations in lower Lazio.
The experience is designed especially for children and families. Among the most popular attractions are:
The Sunday calendar is packed with free events that bring the square to life from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM: from Mago Parker's magic shows to musical performances, themed concerts like "Notes of Light" and tributes to the music of Ennio Morricone, all the way to the highly anticipated living nativity scene and the Epiphany celebrations with the arrival of the Befana on January 6. The lighting of the decorations and the grand nativity scene traditionally marks the official opening during the Immaculate Conception holidays.
The Village is also a large Christmas market: along the town streets, you will find wooden stalls featuring artisanal exhibitors and hobbyists, offering gift ideas, decorations, typical Ciociaria products, and gastronomic specialties to enjoy while strolling. Mulled wine, sweets, and Christmas street food complete an experience that blends shopping, tradition, and conviviality.
Now in its ninth edition, The Magical Santa Claus Village is organized by the Pro Loco of Aquino in collaboration with the municipal administration. Born as a small local initiative, it has become a staple of the Christmas calendar in the province of Frosinone over the years, attracting visitors from all over Lazio and neighboring regions, and showcasing the charm of an authentic medieval village decorated for the holidays.
The ninth edition took place every Sunday and holiday between November 2025 and the Epiphany 2026, with the square open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Key events included: Mago Parker's magic shows (November 30 and December 7), the inauguration of the nativity scene and lights for the Immaculate Conception (December 8), the "Notes of Light" concerts and local bands (December 14), the tribute to Ennio Morricone (December 20), the living nativity scene (December 28), and the Epiphany celebration with the Befana (January 5-6).
The Village was open every weekend from November 16, 2025, to January 6, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Scheduled events:
Throughout the duration: artisanal markets, Santa Claus house, toy factory, Arctic Circle, mascots, magicians, guided tours, and Christmas gastronomy.
