The South Tyrolean stage of the international trail running tour connecting three countries at Lake Resia
The Terra Raetica Trails is a roving trail running festival that spans five days and crosses five regions across three countries – Austria, Switzerland, and Italy – following a format often compared to a "Tour de France" for mountain running. Its final stage takes place in South Tyrol, in the municipality of Curon Venosta/Graun im Vinschgau (Autonomous Province of Bolzano), along the scenic paths surrounding Lake Resia (Reschensee).
The South Tyrolean leg, known as the Reschensee Trail, kicks off from the Schönebenbahn valley station, above the village of Reschen/Resia. Like all stages of the tour, the route covers a distance between 15 and 27 kilometers, with a positive elevation gain ranging from 1,100 to 1,700 meters. The start is set for 9:30 AM, and the course offers unforgettable views of the lake, high-mountain alpine farms, and the peaks bordering Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.
The festival attracts athletes from various nations every year: the 2025 edition saw over 280 trail runners from thirteen countries at the starting line. Participants can sign up for the entire five-stage tour, with a general classification based on cumulative times, or choose individual legs, including the Lake Resia stage. The event is organized by the Verein zur Förderung der Bewegungsfreude in partnership with HOST-Events, which manages logistics and transfers between the different tour locations.
The stage is set within the evocative landscape of Upper Val Venosta, dominated by the famous submerged bell tower of Curon that emerges from the waters of Lake Resia. A unique natural setting, between high mountains and border landscapes, which makes the South Tyrolean stage one of the most anticipated and photographed moments of the entire Terra Raetica Trails.
The 2026 edition of the Terra Raetica Trails was held from June 30 to July 4, 2026, divided into five stages between Kaunertal, the Upper Inn Valley, Samnaun, Nauders, and Reschen. The Reschensee stage, scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Curon Venosta/Graun im Vinschgau, concluded the tour.
The Reschensee Trail started at 9:30 AM from the Schönebenbahn valley station, on a course ranging from 15 to 27 kilometers with a positive elevation gain between 1,100 and 1,700 meters. The South Tyrolean leg confirmed its status as one of the most spectacular of the tour, thanks to the panoramic views of Lake Resia and the peaks of the border triangle.
Saturday, July 4, 2026 – Reschensee Trail (fifth and final stage of the tour). Start at 9:30 AM from the Schönebenbahn valley station, Reschen/Resia. Route 15-27 km, elevation gain 1,100-1,700 m.
The Reschensee stage starts from the Schönebenbahn valley station, above Reschen/Resia, in the municipality of Curon Venosta/Graun im Vinschgau (BZ), in Upper Val Venosta.
Reschen/Resia can be reached by car via the SS40 Resia Pass road; the village is just a few kilometers from the borders with Austria (Nauders) and Switzerland. Ample parking is available near the lake and the ski lifts.
