Authorial jazz in the medieval village of Vallo di Diano since 1992
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Teggiano Jazz is the historic music festival of the Municipality of Teggiano, a medieval village in the Vallo di Diano, in the province of Salerno, Campania. Known as the "town of thirteen churches," Teggiano provides the festival with a natural backdrop of stone alleys, ancient portals, and intimate squares, all dominated by the massive Castello Macchiaroli. The event traditionally takes place during the first week of August, when the historic center comes alive with residents and visitors.
The festival was founded in 1992 and is now considered one of the longest-running and most solid jazz events in Campania. It is organized by the Teggiano Jazz "Peppino Ruocco" Association, which has contributed to the region's cultural growth since its inception by hosting internationally renowned musicians alongside young talents. The festival is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Teggiano and the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Over the years, it has benefited from the support of local entities such as Banca Monte Pruno, which signed a protocol with the association, chaired by Giuseppe Di Manna, in 2014.
The heart of the festival is the courtyard of Castello Macchiaroli, the fortress overlooking Piazza Portello and the symbol of Teggiano. The ancient walls and the enclosed space create an intimate listening experience, quite different from large summer stages: the audience sits just a few meters from the musicians, and the music blends with the village's stone architecture. In some editions, concerts have also moved to Piazza San Cono, in the heart of the historic center, to accommodate larger crowds.
Throughout its editions, Teggiano Jazz has hosted leading names from the Italian and international scenes:
Teggiano Jazz is more than just a concert series: for over thirty years, the association has worked to create a stable cultural hub in the Vallo di Diano, fostering the intersection of art and tourism. The festival attracts audiences from across the province of Salerno and nearby Basilicata, and is part of a rich Teggiano summer calendar, which includes the famous medieval re-enactment "Alla Tavola della Principessa Costanza," which transports the village back to the 15th century every August.
Visitors arriving for the music will find much more. The village preserves an intact medieval urban layout, with the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore, the San Francesco complex, the Diocesan Museum, and, of course, Castello Macchiaroli. From the walls, the view encompasses the entire Vallo di Diano, with the Maddalena mountains on one side and the Alburni on the other. The Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just a few kilometers away: another reason to combine an evening concert with a day of sightseeing.
As of the update of this page, neither the dates nor the program for the 2026 edition of Teggiano Jazz have been announced. The historical reference remains the first week of August, but the summer calendar for the Municipality of Teggiano presented for 2026 does not currently mention it. We recommend checking for updates on the official festival website and the Teggiano Jazz "Peppino Ruocco" Association channels before planning your trip.
No official dates or lineup have been released so far for the 2026 edition. The festival, active since 1992 in Teggiano, in the province of Salerno, has traditionally taken place in the first week of August between Castello Macchiaroli and Piazza San Cono, but the municipal summer calendar released for 2026 does not currently list any events related to the festival.
We do not publish dates or artist names until they are confirmed by the organizers. For updated information, you can write to the Teggiano Jazz "Peppino Ruocco" Association ([email protected]) or consult the official festival website.
By car: Teggiano can be reached via the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo, exiting at Sala Consilina or Padula-Buonabitacolo, then following local roads to the village. The historic center is on a hill: it is best to leave your car in the parking lots at the foot of the town and walk up.
The reference airports are Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi (Pontecagnano) and Naples-Capodichino. There are bus connections from Salerno and Naples to the Vallo di Diano; there is no direct train service to Teggiano.
The courtyard of Castello Macchiaroli, in Piazza Portello, is the main venue for the festival; some editions have taken place in Piazza San Cono, in the historic center.
Access methods change from year to year: in the past, some concerts in the square were free, while evenings at the castle required a ticket. Information and reservations are available through the Teggiano Jazz "Peppino Ruocco" Association ([email protected]).
Summer evenings in the Vallo di Diano can be cool: bring a light sweater. Book your accommodation in advance, as the village also hosts the "Alla Tavola della Principessa Costanza" re-enactment in August, and facilities fill up quickly.
