About Cervati Meeting

The Cervati Meeting is the historic summer music festival in Sanza, a village in the Cilento hinterland in the province of Salerno, nestled at the foot of Monte Cervati, the highest peak in Campania. Over the years, the outdoor stage at the Villa Comunale in Piazza San Francesco has hosted artists such as Massimo Ranieri, Litfiba, Articolo 31, and the Deejay Time Celebration featuring Albertino, Fargetta, Molella, and Prezioso. Since 2026, the festival's major free concerts have been integrated into the 'Festival dell'Accoglienza' (Hospitality Festival) program, promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the Campania Region.

Summer music at the foot of Monte Cervati

The Cervati Meeting is the summer music festival that has been bringing Sanza to life for over fifteen years. This town of just over two thousand inhabitants is located in the province of Salerno, in the heart of the Cilento hinterland and the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. The village lies at an altitude of about 550 meters at the foot of Monte Cervati, the highest peak in Campania. It is this mountain setting—unusual for a region most people associate with the sea—that gives the festival its most distinctive identity. Visitors arriving in Sanza in August find fresh air, beech forests, high-altitude trails, and, in the evening, a concert under the stars.

The Villa Comunale stage

The heart of the Meeting is the Villa Comunale in Piazza San Francesco, a green space in the center of the village that transforms into an open-air arena for the evening. It is not a massive venue; it is a village square, with the stage set up among the trees and the audience arriving on foot from the alleys of the historic center. This intimate scale is precisely what has made the Meeting a favorite date for artists, who are used to much larger stages but not always to such direct contact with the crowd. On the busiest nights, the square and surrounding streets have hosted thousands of spectators from across the Vallo di Diano, Cilento, and nearby Basilicata.

A popular hall of fame

Documented editions of the Meeting date back to at least 2011, when the third edition was held on August 13th and 14th, with two days also dedicated to the summit of the Cervati. Since then, the formula has been consolidated: one or two nights of great music, almost always with free admission, in the middle of the Ferragosto holiday. Names that have passed through Sanza include:

  • Massimo Ranieri (August 25, 2019), in what was his only concert in Campania that summer;
  • Litfiba (2022), who were also honored in Sanza with a lifetime achievement award;
  • Articolo 31 (2023), with J-Ax and DJ Jad performing for over two hours in their only summer stop in Campania;
  • Deejay Time Celebration (August 14, 2024), with Albertino, Fargetta, Molella, and Prezioso bringing 90s dance music back to the square.

There have been pauses: in 2020, the festival was canceled as conditions did not allow for safe operation during the health emergency.

From the Meeting to the Festival dell'Accoglienza

Starting in 2025, the Municipality of Sanza, together with the Campania Region and the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, launched the 'Sanza – Festival dell'Accoglienza' project, supported by PNRR and NextGenerationEU funds. This cultural regeneration program brings street theater, contemporary circus, cinema, light installations, and public art to the village. The major summer concerts that were the hallmark of the Cervati Meeting have been incorporated into this program, while maintaining the original formula: the Villa Comunale stage, free admission, and nationally renowned artists. In 2026, the musical calendar features three events—Nek, Giuliano Palma, and Alex Britti—spread between late July and early August.

Music, mountains, and village festivals

The Meeting does not exist in isolation; it fits into a Sanza summer filled with religious feasts and popular events. On August 5th, the Madonna della Neve is celebrated, a patron saint linked to the sanctuary located right on the summit of the Cervati. It is within the framework of these festivities that the Giuliano Palma concert in Piazza Falcone was scheduled in 2026. For many visitors, the ideal day combines a morning hike up the Cervati—starting from the trails leading toward the Madonna della Neve—with the concert in the villa comunale in the evening.

Why it's worth the trip

Sanza is not on the coast and is not on the way to anywhere else: you come here on purpose. This is what makes the Cervati Meeting different from the large summer festivals in Campania. The audience consists largely of residents, emigrants returning for the summer, and families from neighboring towns, and the atmosphere remains that of a collective celebration rather than a commercial event. Those looking for an authentic taste of the Cilento hinterland—the one with stone villages, food festivals, local cheeses, and walks through beech forests—will find here one of the most iconic events of the Salerno summer.

Cervati Meeting — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Sanza music festival takes place over three evenings between late July and early August, all with free admission. The program, included in the 'Sanza – Festival dell'Accoglienza' promoted by the Municipality with the Campania Region and the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, brings three very different artists to the foot of Monte Cervati: Nek, Giuliano Palma, and Alex Britti. As per tradition, the main stage is the Villa Comunale in Piazza San Francesco.

Three evenings, three generations of Italian music

2026 marks the full integration of the major concerts of the Cervati Meeting into the program of the Festival dell'Accoglienza of Sanza, the cultural project supported by PNRR and NextGenerationEU funds that has already brought street theater, contemporary circus, cinema, and light installations to the village that same summer (July 17-19). The musical part, historically linked to the Meeting, is concentrated between July 31 and August 9.

It begins with Nek, who on July 31 brings his 'Nek Hits Live Tour 2026' to the Villa Comunale in Piazza San Francesco, a show that retraces over thirty years of his career with the most famous songs from his repertoire. On August 6, it is Giuliano Palma's turn, in Piazza Giovanni Falcone, as part of the Madonna della Neve festivities. Alex Britti closes the festival on August 9, back at the Villa Comunale, with a stop of the 'Brittintour '26' which combines his classic hits with the Feat.Pop project, in which his songs have been reinterpreted together with other Italian artists.

All three evenings have completely free admission: a choice claimed by the municipal administration as part of the very meaning of the festival, the hospitality of a mountain village opening up to visitors.

By train: The most convenient stations are Sapri (about 30 km, on the Tyrrhenian line) and Sicignano-Lagonegro for local connections; from the station, you must continue by car or regional bus. By plane: Naples-Capodichino airport, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive away.

Where it takes place

The main concerts are held in the Villa Comunale of Piazza San Francesco, in the center of Sanza; some evenings move to Piazza Giovanni Falcone or the squares of the historic center. The village is small and everything is within walking distance.

Tickets

The 2026 concert program features completely free admission, with no reservation required. In the past, some special evenings required tickets via online platforms: it is advisable to check the Municipality of Sanza's channels from time to time.

Tips

Arrive well in advance: parking in the center is limited, and on peak nights, cars are parked along the access roads. Even in August, at an altitude of 550 meters, the evenings get cool: a sweatshirt is always useful. For those wishing to stay for several days, accommodation options are concentrated between Sanza, Buonabitacolo, Montesano sulla Marcellana, and the coast of Sapri and Policastro.
