Music Beyond Barriers at the Certosa di San Lorenzo
The Padula MOB Festival is the musical highlight that enlivens the town of Padula, in the province of Salerno, every summer. The acronym MOB stands for Musica Oltre le Barriere (Music Beyond Barriers), capturing the event's core spirit: using live concerts as a tool for connection, integration, and social cohesion in a part of Campania that has increasingly embraced culture as a catalyst for renewal.
The festival was founded by the Padula Youth Forum, which manages its organization with the patronage of the local municipality and the support of regional associations. It is a grassroots project: a group of young people who transformed a simple concert night into one of the most anticipated events of the Salerno summer, while always maintaining free admission.
While the first editions were held in the historic center at Piazza I Luglio, the festival eventually found its most iconic home at the Certosa di San Lorenzo, a vast monastic complex listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the largest in Europe. Performing within these walls means placing contemporary music in dialogue with extraordinary Baroque architecture—a contrast that has become the festival's hallmark, offering the audience an experience rarely found elsewhere.
The formula is well-established: the evening kicks off with young local artists and bands, followed by a nationally renowned headliner and a closing DJ set. Over the years, the festival has featured a diverse range of genres, from singer-songwriters and rap to electronic, folk, and Mediterranean sounds. In 2024, the seventh edition featured STE (Stephani Ojemba) and Sethu; in 2025, the spotlight was on Neapolitan singer-songwriter and producer LA NIÑA, alongside Marco Cavaliere, Federa, Amasu, and the Antonio Saporito Band.
The ninth edition is scheduled for Sunday, August 2, 2026, starting at 7:30 PM with free admission. The lineup includes Diblo, Mood S.U.N., 20volteAlma, Fillow, and Alberto Giovinazzo, followed by the highly anticipated performance of the Modena City Ramblers, a legendary Italian folk-rock band. The night will conclude with a DJ set by Dj Kowu. As always, the lineup blends emerging talent with artists who have shaped the national music scene.
Padula is located at the southern tip of the province of Salerno, on the edge of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Beyond the Certosa, the village preserves a compact historic center overlooking the valley, serving as an ideal starting point for excursions to nearby towns and the natural areas of the Vallo. The festival coincides with the height of summer, when the local cultural calendar is enriched with evening tours, performances, and events scattered between the monument and the village.
The Padula MOB Festival is one of the best ways to discover the Campanian hinterland from a fresh perspective: not just as historical heritage to visit by day, but as a living space animated by music and people. A summer night in August, an extraordinary venue, and a program built by young people for an audience of all ages—a simple formula that has been working for years.
The summer event organized by the Padula Youth Forum returns to the Certosa di San Lorenzo in the province of Salerno. The evening of August 2, 2026, confirms the formula that has made the festival recognizable: opening acts by emerging artists, a national headliner to close, and completely free admission.
The highlight of this edition is the presence of the Modena City Ramblers, one of the longest-running names in Italian folk rock, bringing to the Certosa a historic repertoire of ballads, combat folk rhythms, and references to popular tradition. They will be preceded by a selection of young musical projects from the Campania region, spanning singer-songwriter, pop, and electronic sounds.
The 2026 edition is part of a particularly rich summer for Padula, with the Certosa at the center of a cultural program that alternates between tours, performances, and major concerts. The MOB Festival remains the most identity-defining event of the local calendar, as it is grassroots-driven and maintains its commitment to free access.
The performance order may be subject to change: updates are published on the festival's official channels.
