Multidisciplinary festival at the Teatro Furio Camillo in Rome
From February 13th to 23rd, 2026, the Teatro Furio Camillo, a historic venue in the Appio Latino district of Rome's 7th Municipality, hosts the first edition of Teatro degli Assaggi, a multidisciplinary theater festival suitable for all ages. The project was created by the L'Archimandrita Cultural Association and is one of the winners of a public call promoted by the Rome Capital Department of Culture, dedicated to supporting private theaters with fewer than one hundred seats. This recognition highlights the importance of experimental spaces and the independent scene in the capital and the Lazio region.
As the title suggests, the festival invites the audience to "taste" different genres and styles: from physical comedy to contemporary circus, Irish dance to live music, theatrical readings to visual arts, and aerial acrobatics to shows designed for children. Each event is conceived as a close encounter between artists and spectators, made possible by the intimacy of the cozy hall.
A significant portion of the program is reserved for children and families, featuring interactive concerts like Connessione Radio by I Musicullanti, the animated readings Storie per incontrarci designed for children aged 3 to 6, and the poetic performance Sulle Orme del Serpente by the Compagnia Circoenxame, a journey through Brazilian ecosystems that delicately addresses the theme of climate change.
One of the festival's hallmarks is its commitment to accessibility: several events are accompanied by LIS (Italian Sign Language) interpretation, making the performances accessible to a wider audience. Some meetings, including exhibitions, book presentations, and animated readings, are free of charge, while evening shows have a symbolic ticket price.
Located at Via Camilla 44, just a few steps from the Furio Camillo station on Metro Line A, the Teatro Furio Camillo has been a reference point for theatrical experimentation and research in south-east Rome for years. With the Teatro degli Assaggi festival, it confirms its role as a local hub, capable of fostering dialogue between emerging artists, contemporary circus companies, and neighborhood families. It is a perfect opportunity for residents and visitors to discover a less touristy, deeply rooted side of Roman theater.
The festival brought the Teatro Furio Camillo to life for eleven days, alternating evening shows, family events, exhibitions, and meetings. A varied program that ranged from physical comedy to contemporary circus, Irish dance to aerial acrobatics, theatrical readings to live music, with a special focus on accessibility and young audiences.
