Great drama, dance, and comedy at the Teatro Comunale in Barletta
Every winter, the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Curci in Barletta becomes the beating heart of cultural life for the city and the entire Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT) province in Puglia. The Theatrical Season, promoted by the Municipality of Barletta in collaboration with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese (Puglia Culture), offers a rich program from November to May that blends drama, contemporary theater, comedy, dance, and events designed for families.
The programming is crafted for a broad and diverse audience, alternating repertoire classics with contemporary dramaturgy, without overlooking popular comedy and grand dance. The Barletta stage welcomes leading performers from Italian theater, cinema, and television, bringing to life texts by authors such as Eugene O'Neill and Luigi Pirandello, alongside the latest rewrites on the national scene.
Alongside the drama section, the program dedicates space to comedy, dance in its various forms—from classical ballet to contemporary choreographic research—and the Families at the Theater series, with shows suitable for younger audiences. The theater also complements the drama season with its historic Musical Season, now in its 42nd edition.
Inaugurated on April 6, 1872, and named after the Barletta-born composer and conductor Giuseppe Curci, the Teatro Comunale is a fine example of neoclassical architecture, rebuilt based on the designs of architect Federico Santacroce. Overlooking Corso Vittorio Emanuele in the heart of Barletta's historic center, it is prized for the elegance of its Italian-style auditorium and its excellent acoustics, making it one of the most important historic venues in Puglia.
The 2025/2026 season at the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Curci in Barletta brought together 25 events divided between drama, family theater, comedy, contemporary works, and dance, promoted by the Municipality of Barletta with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese. The program ranged from great repertoire classics to contemporary writing, with a special focus on dance and popular comedy.
Among the drama titles, the audience applauded Massimo Lopez and Tullio Solenghi in their New Year's show, Michele Riondino in Art, Massimo Dapporto in Pirandello Pulp, Daniele Russo in Il caso Jekyll directed by Sergio Rubini, Gabriele Lavia and Federica Di Martino in Long Day's Journey into Night by Eugene O'Neill, as well as the musical Sapore di Mare with Fatima Trotta. The comedy section featured the Gemelli di Guidonia and Giobbe Covatta, while the dance program offered choreography by Silvia Gribaudi, Eric Gauthier, and Apulian companies.
