Great classical theatre in the Roman Theatre of Falerio Picenus
TAU - Teatri Antichi Uniti is one of the most beloved summer theatre festivals in the Marche and, for almost thirty years, has been bringing archaeological sites in the region back to life, transforming them into open-air stages. In Falerone, in the heart of the Province of Fermo, performances are held in the evocative Roman Theatre of Falerio Picenus, one of the most important archaeological complexes in the Marche, a testament to the ancient Roman colony founded in the Augustan age.
For 2026, TAU celebrates its XXVIII edition, with a distributed program featuring around thirty-seven events spread across seventeen archaeological sites in fifteen municipalities in the Marche region. The common thread for the year is the encounter between myth, ancient tragedy, and contemporary sensibility: a journey through the great tradition of classical theatre reinterpreted by protagonists of the Italian stage.
The Roman Theatre of Falerone hosts some of the most anticipated events of the festival:
Attending a TAU performance in Falerone means experiencing theatre in its original dimension: the Roman tiers, the silence of the evening, and the natural acoustics of the site create an atmosphere that no modern theatre can match. The festival is organized by AMAT - Associazione Marchigiana Attività Teatrali in collaboration with the Marche Region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Municipality of Falerone, and represents a virtuous model for enhancing archaeological heritage through live performance.
For those visiting the Marche in the summer, TAU in Falerone is the ideal opportunity to combine the discovery of the Fermo hinterland, with its villages, hills, and food and wine products, with an evening of great culture under the stars.
The XXVIII edition of TAU enlivens the Roman Theatre of Falerio Picenus with a program of evening performances, all starting at 9:30 PM. The Falerone lineup blends classical myth with contemporary reinterpretation.
The entire festival features around thirty-seven performances across seventeen archaeological sites in fifteen municipalities in the Marche region.
Note: Sources indicate slightly different dates for the August performance (August 4 or 8); it is advisable to check the official AMAT website before purchasing.
