About Sunday at the Museum

The first Sunday of each month, the National Museum of Pandone Castle in Venafro (IS) opens its doors for free thanks to the Ministry of Culture's "Sunday at the Museum" initiative. An opportunity to discover the famous cycle of frescoes with Count Enrico Pandone's horses, unique in the world, and the collections of the National Museum of Molise, from the early Christian era to the modern age.

Once a month, the museum is free

In Venafro (province of Isernia), the National Museum of Pandone Castle participates in "Sunday at the Museum", the initiative by the Ministry of Culture that makes admission to state museums and cultural sites free on the first Sunday of each month. A monthly event that invites residents and visitors to rediscover one of Molise's symbolic monuments.

Count Pandone's Frescoed Horses

The castle houses a cycle of frescoes unique in the world: between 1522 and 1527, Count Enrico Pandone had the noble floor rooms frescoed with portraits of his own horses, the stallions from the royal stables that he himself bred. There is also the "Salone nobile" with 16th-century pastoral-themed frescoes.

The Collections of the Museum of Molise

In another wing, the castle houses the National Museum of Molise, which preserves paintings from the early Christian era to the modern period. A visit to Pandone Castle is an unmissable stop for anyone wanting to understand the history and art of the Venafro and Molise region.
