An evening of jazz under the stars in the Upper Val d'Arda
Summertime in Jazz in Morfasso is the Apennine stop of Summertime in Jazz, the travelling summer review organized by the Piacenza Jazz Club with the artistic direction of Angelo Bardini. Every summer, the event brings live concerts to the villages and landscapes of the Trebbia and Arda valleys, transforming squares, parks, and courtyards into open-air stages. In Morfasso, a small municipality in the Upper Val d'Arda in the province of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna, jazz reaches the mid-mountain area for an evening of music under the stars.
Summertime in Jazz is a review that spans numerous locations in the Piacenza area: besides Morfasso, the programme includes Piacenza, Cortemaggiore, Castell'Arquato, Vigoleno, Travo, Rivergaro, Bobbio, Lugagnano, and other villages, with a schedule running throughout the summer, from late June to the second half of August. The idea is to accompany the public in discovering charming places through music: each concert is also an opportunity to visit a different corner of the Piacenza Apennines and hills.
The Morfasso concert is traditionally held in July, in Piazza Tenente Inzani, in the centre of the village, and in some editions in the adjacent municipal playground overlooking the square. It is an evening event, usually starting at 9:30 PM, designed to enjoy the coolness of a summer mountain evening. The intimate size of the village makes the evening particularly personal: the audience listens to music outdoors, immersed in the landscape of the Upper Val d'Arda.
Admission to the Morfasso concerts is free, in line with the spirit of the review, which aims to introduce a wide and diverse audience to jazz. The musical offerings range from the swing of the dixieland tradition to soul, from great tributes to historical jazz voices to the younger and more brilliant ensembles on the Italian scene. An evening suitable for enthusiasts but also for those approaching this genre for the first time, in a familiar and welcoming setting.
Morfasso is a mountain municipality in the province of Piacenza, a reference point for those who want to explore the Upper Val d'Arda, with its woods, hiking trails, and small villages. The jazz review is one of the most anticipated cultural events of the local summer and contributes to the enhancement of the territory, combining the quality of the musical offering with the beauty of the Emilian-Romagnolo Apennine environment.
The 2026 stop of Summertime in Jazz in Morfasso is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 9:30 PM, in Piazza Tenente Inzani, with free admission. On stage, the concert by Mauro L. Porro's dixie blue blowers 5ET is announced, a formation bringing the swing and dixieland of early jazz to the village of the Upper Val d'Arda.
The event is part of the rich programme of the 13th edition of the Piacenza Jazz Club's summer review, which from late June to the second half of August travels through numerous villages in the Trebbia and Arda valleys. The Morfasso evening confirms the event's vocation: to bring great live jazz to the most picturesque locations of the Piacenza Apennines, in Emilia-Romagna.
