An evening on real snow in the heart of summer, in the pedestrian zone of Ortisei
Summer Snow with the Ortisei Ski & Snowboard School, also known as Summer Snow, is one of the most intriguing events of the summer in Val Gardena. For just one evening, the pedestrian zone of Ortisei (Urtijei), located in the municipality of the same name in the Province of Bolzano, is covered in real snow and turned into a small ski slope, right in the middle of August.
The uniqueness of this initiative lies in how the snow is made: ice remnants from the Pranives stadium skating rink are processed and spread along the town's pedestrian street. The result is a snowy surface where children can take their first steps on skis in the middle of summer, under the guidance of expert instructors.
During the evening, instructors from the Ortisei Ski & Snowboard School provide information and entertainment for both adults and children. It is the perfect opportunity for kids to experience the thrill of snow, prepare for the upcoming winter season, and enjoy the magic of winter while it is still summer outside. The atmosphere is typical of the Ladin villages of Val Gardena, nestled among the peaks of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Admission is free and no reservation is required: simply show up in the pedestrian zone of Ortisei during the indicated hours. The event takes place in the evening, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and is part of the town's rich summer calendar of events, blending sports, tradition, and local life.
Ortisei is the main hub of Val Gardena, a Ladin valley in South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige) world-famous for skiing, woodcarving, and the Dolomites. Initiatives like Summer Snow reflect the spirit of a town that embraces the mountains all year round and knows how to reinvent itself even in the warmer months, offering visitors an original and unexpected experience.
The appointment with Summer Snow 2026 in Ortisei is set for August 22, 2026, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, in the town's pedestrian zone. Real snow, obtained from ice remnants from the Pranives skating rink, allows children to try out skiing in the middle of August under the guidance of instructors from the Ortisei Ski & Snowboard School. The event, which is free and requires no reservation, offers information and entertainment for all ages, bringing the charm of winter to the heart of the Val Gardena summer.
