A Thirty-Year Festival
Sùca Barùca col Mòcolo Impissà — literally 'hollowed-out pumpkin with a lit candle' in Venetian dialect — is the pumpkin festival of Piove di Sacco, in the province of Padua. A tradition that has lasted for over thirty years and which every autumn paints the streets and squares of the historic centre orange, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
Between Market, Tradition, and Taste
The heart of the festival is the large market-exhibition: stalls of culinary and artistic pumpkins, works by painters and sculptors, nurseries, agricultural businesses, and artisans. The vintage agricultural exhibitions and demonstrations of ancient crafts tell the story of the area's farming heritage, while the Pro Loco stand and the town's restaurants offer pumpkin risotto, each in their own version.
The Carving Competition and Festive Atmosphere
Particularly anticipated by the younger ones is the pumpkin carving competition for children and young people, with prizes. Completing the day are musical performances and entertainment. Organized by the Pro Loco of Piove di Sacco, the festival is one of the identity events of the Saccisica community and one of the most recognizable themed sagre (local festivals) in the Padua area.

The 2026 edition of Sùca Barùca col Mòcolo Impissà is expected in October, following the tradition of holding the festival on autumn Sundays. The historic centre of Piove di Sacco will once again be filled with stalls selling culinary and artistic pumpkins, vintage agricultural exhibitions, demonstrations of ancient crafts, a carving competition for the little ones, and pumpkin risotto in the square.
