Games, workshops, and street theatre for the environment in Terracina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Street Green Fest is an environmental awareness and education event held in Terracina, in the province of Latina, in the heart of Lazio's Pontine coast. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Terracina in collaboration with waste management providers De Vizia Transfer and Urbaser, brings an afternoon of celebration to the city's streets and squares, where sustainability becomes a game, a show, and a shared experience. The target audience is broad: children, families, residents, and the many tourists who flock to this seaside resort halfway between Rome and Naples during the summer.
The heart of the Street Green Fest is the entertainment led by environmental educators, who engage children in group games and creative activities. Workshops featured in past editions include building musical instruments from recycled materials and a flour and water sensory workshop—practical experiences designed to teach the value of reuse and the culture of waste reduction. Four entertainers guide participants in an active and engaging way, transforming the square into a large, open-air educational space.
The highlight of the event is the performance "Alice Oltre lo Spreco", an environmental-themed reimagining of Lewis Carroll's classic. Alice, accompanied by the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit, confronts a despotic Queen of Hearts, a symbol of food waste and disposable culture. The protagonist's journey teaches children—and adults—the value of reuse, recovery, and recycling, turning the narrative into an invitation to active participation.
The setting for the event is Terracina, a city on the Ulysses Riviera dominated by the Temple of Jupiter Anxur and overlooking one of the most popular beaches on the Lazio coast. The 2025 edition was spread over three days—August 7, 20, and 27—with events across the municipal area, including the Borgo Hermada district. The choice of August is no coincidence: the festival reaches holidaymakers, bringing themes of waste sorting and eco-friendly behavior to the forefront just as the city reaches its peak of visitors.
The Street Green Fest is not an isolated case: the same urban festival format dedicated to the circular economy has also arrived in other Italian cities, such as Avezzano and Pratola Peligna in Abruzzo, featuring the same educational workshops, circular economy info-points, and the "Alice Oltre lo Spreco" show. This is a sign of the vitality of a model that combines entertainment with active citizenship.
All Street Green Fest events are completely free and open to everyone. It is an opportunity to experience the squares of Terracina in a different way, learning while having fun: because here, environmental protection is first and foremost a community celebration.
At the moment, the Municipality of Terracina has not yet communicated the dates for the 2026 edition of the Street Green Fest. In 2025, the event took place over three days in August, featuring workshops for children and the show "Alice Oltre lo Spreco"; the format has also toured other Italian cities in the spring of 2026, a sign that the project is active. We recommend checking the Terracina Municipality's tourism portal for official updates on dates and the program.
Terracina can be reached by car from Rome via the SS148 Pontina or the SS7 Appia (approx. 100 km). The nearest train station is Monte San Biagio-Terracina Mare, on the Rome-Naples line via Formia, connected to the city center by bus; the city is also served by Cotral bus lines.
All Street Green Fest events are free and open to the public.
