The Street Food Festival is one of the most popular events of the summer in Montella, a town in the Picentini Mountains in the Province of Avellino, in the heart of Irpinia and inland Campania. Organized by the Pro Loco «Diego Cavaniglia», the event transforms the town center into a hub for street food, featuring food stalls, counters, outdoor tables, and live music late into the night.

This is not your typical traveling fair with food trucks from outside the region; here, the offerings come from local businesses and associations, which bring their own take on street food to the town square for the evening. It is a simple, effective formula that combines conviviality, affordable prices, and local identity, making it one of the most attended events on the Montella summer calendar.

Part of the «Montella Estate» program

The Street Food Festival does not stand alone: it is part of the «Montella Estate» program, a schedule of events curated by the Municipality of Montella in collaboration with local Pro Loco and associations. Running from late June to early September, it features a mix of tradition, culture, sports, nature, gastronomy, and music. In the 2025 season alone, the town hosted the Pasta Festival, the Pizza Festival, the Festa delle Stese, the Cavatello Festival, the Beer Festival, and the Saint Rocco celebrations: the Street Food Festival fits perfectly into this vibrant tapestry of local festivities, standing out as perhaps the most youthful and informal one.

Because it is part of a larger program, the location can change from one edition to the next. In 2025, the evenings were held in two different spots in the center: Piazza G. Matteotti and a section of Via M. Cianciulli, with stalls opening at 8:00 PM.

The municipality is famous throughout Italy for its Montella PGI Chestnut, celebrated in autumn by a historic festival that attracts thousands of visitors, and for its privileged location within the Picentini Mountains Regional Park. Just above the town lies the Verteglia Plateau, one of the most beloved landscapes in Irpinia, a destination for hiking, summer camping, and walks.

The historic center preserves important local landmarks, from the monumental complex of San Francesco a Folloni to the village churches, while the local cuisine remains tied to mountain products: chestnuts, mushrooms, legumes, cheeses, and fresh homemade pasta. An evening stop in the square, moving from one stall to another, is a great way to experience the most authentic side of Irpinia.
