Agliana's night-time running race in the heart of the Pistoia Plain
The Stranotturna di Agliana is one of the most cherished running events in the Pistoia Plain: an evening race that, every early June, transforms the streets of the town of Agliana, in the province of Pistoia, into a festive, illuminated course. Organized by the A.S.D. Podistica Aglianese 1980 in collaboration with the Circolino Arci of San Niccolò and supported by the local municipality, the event has become a consolidated tradition that draws hundreds of participants from across Tuscany.
For several years now, the Stranotturna has been dedicated to the memory of Luca Baccini, the historic and beloved president of the Podistica Aglianese. The Memorial named after him has become a permanent fixture of the race, giving the evening a significance that goes beyond sport: it is a moment of community where the town gathers around the values of running associations and volunteering.
The event offers two formats designed to welcome everyone:
The meeting point is at the Circolino di San Niccolò, while the start is located on Via Brunelleschi, just a short walk from the center of Agliana.
What makes the Stranotturna truly unmistakable is the traditional mega refreshment at the finish line: a generous spread that rewards runners and walkers after their efforts, in the true spirit of Tuscan conviviality. It is one of the reasons why the race is so highly anticipated and keeps participants coming back year after year.
With dozens of editions behind it, the Stranotturna di Agliana has rightfully earned its place in the provincial and regional running calendar, alongside other events organized by the Podistica Aglianese such as the Maratonina de' 6 Ponti and the Scarpinata del Granocchio. Running in the evening through the town streets, with the cool summer air and the cheers of the crowd on the sidewalks, is an experience that perfectly captures the sporting and popular soul of this corner of the Pistoia province, in Tuscany.
The thirty-eighth Stranotturna di Agliana took place on Friday, June 5, 2026, confirming its fixed spot in the Pistoia provincial running calendar. The 2026 edition also served as the 5th Luca Baccini Memorial, in memory of the historic president of the Podistica Aglianese.
At the end, as per tradition, the traditional mega refreshment was set up for all participants.
