An urban festival in the heart of the Roman Sabina
The Strange Days Festival is one of the most original summer events in the Lazio region. It takes place in Monteflavio, a town of just over a thousand inhabitants perched at an altitude of 800 meters in the Lucretili Mountains, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, less than an hour from the capital. This contrast is its hallmark: a lineup of urban, rap, and trap music that would fill large arenas elsewhere, hosted in the public park of a Sabina village, with mountain views and free admission for everyone.
From 2012 to today: the history
The event was born in 2012 from an idea by the Pro Loco Monteflavio, initially as a simple village initiative designed to liven up the summer and give space to local bands. Within a few years, the formula proved successful, and the festival grew to attract thousands of visitors from across the Roman province and the Sabina area. The turning point is considered to be 2017, when a concert by rapper Coez brought over four thousand people to Monteflavio, proving that a free, self-produced event could compete with major urban gatherings.
Since then, Strange Days has maintained its identity: no tickets, no barriers, and a program that alternates established names of the Italian scene with emerging artists who find a real stage here in front of a large audience.
Music, motors, and the ring: the three souls
The festival is spread over three days, each with its own character:
- Music — the heart of the event: live Italian rap, trap, and urban music, local rock and punk bands, and DJ sets that continue into the small hours. Over the years, artists like Coez, Villabanks, Massimo Pericolo, Giancane, and Il Pagante have graced the stage in Monteflavio.
- Motors — the central day traditionally hosts the Harley-Davidson rally, with motorcycles displayed in the town center and clubs arriving from all over Lazio.
- Boxing — on Sunday, the park turns into an arena: a ring is set up for a tournament involving gyms from the Lazio region, with matches running throughout the day before the closing DJ set.
Atmosphere and dining
The festival is held entirely outdoors in the public park of Monteflavio, featuring relaxation areas, food stands, and a selection of draft beers. The cuisine is local, managed by volunteers and village businesses: traditional Sabina dishes and street food at popular prices. It is a village festival atmosphere mixed with the urban scene, with a young yet diverse audience and local families participating in the festival's life.
Why it's worth the trip
Those arriving from Rome find a completely different landscape in just over an hour: the Lucretili Mountains Regional Natural Park, hiking trails toward Monte Gennaro, the villages of the Sabina, and their production of PDO extra virgin olive oil. Strange Days is the perfect opportunity to combine a weekend of free music with the discovery of this off-the-beaten-path corner of Lazio, where hospitality is still the genuine kind found in small towns.

Strange Days Festival 2026
The 2026 edition of the Strange Days Festival took place from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12 in the public park of Monteflavio, in the province of Rome, confirming the free-entry formula that has characterized the event since 2012.
Friday kicked off with live performances by Jess&Noe and the Clockworks Band, a DJ set by DJ Prince, and the highly anticipated headliner Villabanks, followed by a closing set by Marco Valeri DJ. Saturday was the most intense day: in the afternoon, the Harley-Davidson exhibition in the town center, followed on stage by Federico Frappetta, Street Survivors, Borghetta Stile, and DJs Ferrante and Marconi, before the live show by Massimo Pericolo.
Sunday was entirely dedicated to boxing, with a national tournament and matches in the ring throughout the day, a performance by the local group Lo Spiccio, and the final DJ set that closed the thirteenth edition.

How to get there
Monteflavio can be reached by car from Rome in about an hour: take the A1 motorway and exit at Fiano Romano, or follow the Via Salaria SS4 to Monterotondo, then take provincial roads toward Moricone and Monteflavio. The town is served by Cotral buses with connections from the Mentana/Monterotondo train station. During the festival, parking areas are set up near the town center.
Admission and hours
Admission to the festival is completely free on all days. Musical evenings generally run from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM, while daytime activities (motorcycle rally, boxing matches) begin in the afternoon.
Tips
The village is located at an altitude of 800 meters: even in July, evenings can be cool, so it is best to bring a sweatshirt. Food stands and bar points are active on-site for the entire duration of the event. For accommodation, it is best to look at the farmhouses and bed and breakfasts in the Sabina area, between Moricone, Palombara Sabina, and Fara in Sabina.
