For almost two weeks, coinciding with the patron saint's feast day, Ancona celebrates its most iconic dish: 'stoccafisso all'anconitana' (codfish stewed in the Ancona style). Promoted by the Academy of Stoccafisso all'Anconitana, the festival brings together dozens of restaurants from the capital and the province around a unique, agreed-upon menu for 30 euros. A delicious and popular occasion to discover a gastronomic tradition that has linked the Marche region to Norway for centuries.

A widespread festival dedicated to 'stoccafisso all'anconitana'

The Stoccafisso Festival of San Ciriaco is the food and wine event with which Ancona, the capital of the Marche region, celebrates its most representative dish: 'stoccafisso all'anconitana', cooked stewed with potatoes, tomato, oil, and herbs. It is not a local fair concentrated in a single square, but a widespread event that involves participating restaurants in the municipality of Ancona and numerous towns in the province for about eleven days.

'Stoccafisso', dried cod imported from Norway, has been a pillar of Ancona's gastronomic identity for centuries.
