A Christmas village in the heart of Abruzzo

Every year, on the first weekend of December, the Stiffe Christmas Markets transform the village of Stiffe—a hamlet of the municipality of San Demetrio ne' Vestini, in the province of L'Aquila—into an authentic Christmas village. Along the streets of this Abruzzo town, decorated wooden chalets, craft stalls, and gift ideas pop up, while the air fills with the scent of mulled wine and traditional local sweets.

Crafts, street food, and music

The event combines the exhibition and sale of artisanal products with the tasting of local gastronomic specialties. A large street food area offers hot dishes and typical products, accompanied by live music that enlivens the days and evenings in the village.

An event designed for families

The program is particularly focused on children: there are face painting sessions, entertainment, children's shows, and, of course, the unmissable meeting with Santa Claus, where kids can take photos and hand over their letters for the North Pole. Dancing, magic, and entertainment complete a festive and engaging atmosphere.

The Grotte di Stiffe and the enchanted nativity scene

The great added value of Stiffe is the presence of the famous Grotte di Stiffe, one of Italy's most fascinating karst resurgences, which remain open for visits during the Christmas period. Inside the complex, an enchanted nativity scene is set up, blending the natural wonder of the caves with the charm of the holidays, creating a unique journey through nature and tradition.

A staple of the Abruzzo calendar

Organized by the Azienda Speciale Territorio e Cultura of San Demetrio ne' Vestini, in collaboration with the municipality and the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, the event is now a consolidated appointment in the Christmas calendar of the L'Aquila hinterland. Immersed in the mountain landscape of Abruzzo, the village of Stiffe offers an experience that combines tradition, gastronomy, and the discovery of one of the region's most precious natural treasures.
