The Azzurri's summer training camp on the Alto Sangro plateau
For several seasons, Castel di Sangro, a town in the province of L'Aquila nestled in the Alto Sangro valley, has hosted the second part of SSC Napoli's summer training camp. After the first phase of preparation in the mountains of Val di Sole, the Azzurri move to Abruzzo to refine their athletic condition ahead of the championship. Over the years, this event has become much more than a simple sports gathering: it is a true popular festival that brings the entire town and the surrounding plateau to life.
The team's headquarters is the Stadio Teofilo Patini, where open-door training sessions take place. Thousands of fans reach the stadium every day to watch the champions up close, witness tactical drills, and soak up the pre-season atmosphere. The Fan Village (Summer Village) also takes shape in the stadium area, featuring stands, family spaces, refreshment points, official merchandise, and daily entertainment for both adults and children.
The highlight of the training camp is the international friendly matches played at the Stadio Patini, traditionally against top-tier European opponents. These tests represent a rare opportunity for the local Abruzzo public and Napoli fans to see the team in action during real matches, in a local stadium transformed for the occasion into a small international arena.
The training camp generates significant economic and tourism revenue for the Municipality of Castel di Sangro and the entire Alto Sangro district, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every summer. Hotels, restaurants, and local businesses experience one of their busiest periods of the year during these weeks. As Mayor Angelo Caruso has emphasized, the event is now considered "a heritage of the entire Alto Sangro and Abruzzo region".
For those who love football and want to discover the Abruzzo mountains at the same time, the Napoli training camp in Castel di Sangro is an event that perfectly blends sport, celebration, and local territory.
SSC Napoli, led by Massimiliano Allegri, will hold its Abruzzo training camp in Castel di Sangro from July 30 to August 13, 2026, following the first phase in Val di Sole. This edition coincides with the club's centenary, founded on August 1, 1926, and the thirtieth anniversary of Castel di Sangro's promotion to Serie B.
Three international friendly matches are scheduled at the Stadio Teofilo Patini, confirmed by the Municipality for August 5, 8, and 12. Alongside the matches, open-door training sessions and the traditional Fan Village will continue. Dedicated initiatives with entertainment and shows are being planned for the centenary celebrations on August 1st.
The official opponents for the friendlies and details on tickets (sold via TicketOne) will be announced by the club: it is recommended to check the official website sscnapoli.it for updates.
Castel di Sangro is located in the Alto Sangro area, in the province of L'Aquila. By car, it can be reached via the SS17 and SS652 Fondo Valle Sangro roads. The Castel di Sangro railway station is served by the Sulmona-Isernia-Carpinone line.
Admission to open training sessions and the Fan Village is generally free. For international friendlies, tickets are sold by SSC Napoli, usually via the TicketOne platform. It is recommended to check methods, prices, and ticket release dates on the official website sscnapoli.it.
During the days of friendly matches and training sessions, the influx of people is very high: it is advisable to arrive well in advance and to book accommodation and dining in the Alto Sangro area early.
