Politics, cuisine, and ballroom dancing in the heart of the Bassa modenese
The Spring Unity Festival of Nonantola is one of the most cherished events of spring in the Bassa modenese. For several weeks, the festival area in via Marzabotto, in the Municipality of Nonantola (Province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna), becomes a meeting point where different generations come together to share food, music, and the pleasure of being together. It is much more than a political festival; it is a collective ritual that blends tradition, conviviality, and civic engagement.
The gastronomic heart of the festival is its restaurant, appreciated for the traditional Emilian dishes offered at popular prices. The most anticipated moment is the Friday fish dinners, available by reservation: a classic that draws many regulars every year. Alongside land and sea menus, the food stand accompanies the evenings until late, in a true Emilian convivial spirit.
The evenings are marked by live music, ballroom dancing, and shows: the dance floor is one of the souls of the festival, where orchestras and bands entertain audiences of all ages. There are also entertainment moments designed for families, making the atmosphere festive and popular.
True to the tradition of Unity Festivals, the event dedicates ample space to debates and public meetings on current issues, politics, and the future of the region. It is an opportunity to listen to guests, exchange ideas, and reflect, in a climate of participation that represents the historical identity of this event.
The festival is promoted by the Democratic Party circles of Nonantola, Ravarino, Bomporto, and Bastiglia, with the collaboration of circles from Camposanto, Fiorano Modenese, Maranello, Medolla, Pavullo nel Frignano, Piumazzo, San Felice sul Panaro, Spilamberto, and Vignola. This network of municipalities highlights the event's deep roots in the Bassa modenese and its dimension as a community festival, capable of uniting several towns around a single, grand spring gathering.
The Spring Unity Festival of Nonantola returned from April 10 to May 17, 2026, at the festival area on via Marzabotto. The event maintained its proven formula: open on Friday and Saturday evenings and on Sundays and public holidays for lunch, with closure on April 24 and special openings on April 25 (lunch and dinner) and May 1 (lunch).
