A Sunday of flowers, plants, and local products in the Apennine village
The Spring Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the beautiful season in Castiglione dei Pepoli, a municipality in the Bolognese Apennines in the province of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna. For an entire day, the historic village transforms into a large open-air market celebrating the awakening of nature: colorful flowers, ornamental and vegetable plants, cut flowers, and arrangements fill the streets and squares of the center, offering visitors a lively and fragrant atmosphere.
The event attracts gardening enthusiasts and the curious from all over the Apennine region, straddling Emilia and Tuscany. Along the stalls, you can find:
The Spring Festival is also designed for children and families. Among the most popular activities is the presence of PompierPepoli, an initiative where, from the morning in front of the Municipal Theater, children can dress up as firefighters for a day, with games and dedicated activities.
Castiglione dei Pepoli is located in the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, along the ancient route of the Via della Lana e della Seta (Wool and Silk Road), the path connecting Bologna to Prato through historic villages and ridges. The Spring Festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover the municipality's territory, its nature, and its mountain hospitality, less than seventy kilometers from Bologna.
The event is organized by the tourist office of Castiglione dei Pepoli with the support of local associations. Admission is free.
The 2026 Spring Festival returned to Castiglione dei Pepoli on Sunday, May 3, 2026, confirming its formula of an open-air market spread throughout the historic village streets.
A day full of colors and flavors, with the market of flowers and plants, local products, garden equipment, and the traditional market. Among the offerings were natural cosmetics and local and national food specialties, which each year attract visitors from all over the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines looking for plants, flowers, and garden furniture.
