The grand sports village at the EUR Lake in Rome
Sport in Famiglia has become one of Rome's most anticipated sporting events: every May, the Parco Centrale del Lago dell'EUR becomes a massive open-air village where you can try dozens of disciplines for free. Across an area of over 10,000 square meters of greenery and 85,000 square meters of water, the public doesn't just watchโthey hop into canoes, pick up foils, climb, cycle, and hit the field, always assisted by professional athletes and qualified instructors.
The program features more than sixty different sports, with the participation of numerous federations, sports promotion bodies, and local associations. Featured disciplines include track and field, climbing, martial arts, soccer, canoeing, cycling, dance, dragon boat, hockey, judo, karate, volleyball, basketball, handball, skating, chess, fencing, water skiing, surfing, archery, sailing, and even skydiving. The proximity to the lake allows for a strong focus on water sports, which are often little-known to the general public.
The event kicks off on Friday with a day dedicated to schools: over a thousand students bring the park to life, supported by hundreds of high schoolers involved in work-study programs (PCTO), putting their organizational and professional skills into practice. The weekend is dedicated to families, featuring demonstrations, free trials, and guided paths for all ages. Health and prevention play a central role, with free medical screenings, cardiac check-ups, and first-aid courses.
Sport in Famiglia was born with a clear social mission: to make sports accessible to everyone, highlight lesser-known disciplines, and promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. Great attention is also paid to the environment, with areas dedicated to environmental education and sustainable mobility. The format, always with free admission, has made the initiative a landmark for Municipality IX and the entire city of Rome, in the Lazio region.
The 2026 edition of Sport in Famiglia took place from May 15 to 17 at the Parco Centrale del Lago dell'EUR, confirming its status as one of Rome's largest free sporting events. Three days of trials, demonstrations, and interactive activities among the lawns and waters of the lake, with over 66 disciplines and hundreds of athletes available to the public.
Friday was dedicated to schools, with over a thousand students as protagonists and more than 250 high schoolers engaged in work-study programs. The weekend, open to everyone, offered great new features: guided mountain bike trails, areas dedicated to motorcycling, a simulated ski slope, the return of parkour, and a free bicycle repair workshop. There was also ample space for health, with medical screenings, cardiac check-ups, and first-aid courses.
