About Spazi Sonori

The Spazi Sonori Festival is a long-standing chamber and classical music series that brings life to the village of San Vito Chietino, located on the Costa dei Trabocchi in the province of Chieti. Directed by Maestro Roberto De Grandi, the festival features duos, choirs, and ensembles performing in local churches, blending sophisticated repertoire with popular favorites. Now in its 19th edition as of 2025, it takes place in two seasonal blocks: the summer season, as part of the Estate Sanvitese program, and a series of Christmas concerts in December.

A festival among the churches of San Vito Chietino

The Spazi Sonori Festival is one of the most deeply rooted musical events in San Vito Chietino, a small town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, overlooking the picturesque Costa dei Trabocchi. Now in its 19th edition as of 2025, the festival hosts classical and chamber music concerts within the town's sacred and historic spaces, turning local churches into natural concert halls with immersive acoustics.

Artistic direction and format

The festival is curated by Maestro Roberto De Grandi, who serves as artistic director. The musical program weaves together great classical works with more popular and accessible pieces, bringing instrumental duos, choirs, and small ensembles to the stage. It is a way to bring audiences closer to chamber music in an intimate, cozy settingโ€”far from large auditoriums, yet deeply connected to the local identity.

Two seasons: Summer and Christmas

Spazi Sonori takes place during two distinct times of the year. In summer, it joins the rich Estate Sanvitese calendar, which features dozens of events including theater, music, literature, and sports from June to September. In winter, the festival lights up with Christmas-themed events, with concerts held in the churches of the town center, San Vito Marina, and the surrounding hamlets.

The venues

Concerts are held in the churches of the village and the coastline, including the Church of the Immaculate Conception in San Vito Paese, the Church of San Rocco in Sant'Apollinare, and the Church of Madonna del Porto in San Vito Marina. These spaces not only offer excellent acoustics but also allow visitors to rediscover the religious and architectural heritage of this Abruzzese town.

A local tradition

Organized by the Municipality of San Vito Chietino, the festival is a key pillar of local cultural life and an opportunity for residents and visitors of the Costa dei Trabocchi to experience live music in an intimate atmosphere. Admission is generally free, with reservations recommended for the most popular performances.
