About Sparanise under the Stars

Sparanise under the Stars is the summer festival that lights up the Via Marinelli municipal park in the heart of the Agro Caleno region at the end of August. Organized by the association 'Sparanise in Festa — Un sorriso per tutti' with the patronage of the Municipality, it offers open-air evenings filled with live music, DJ sets, Neapolitan opera, and group dancing, accompanied by food stalls serving fragrant porchetta, sausages, and fried delicacies. It is a simple, community-driven village festival that brings together families, young people, and grandparents from the province of Caserta under the August sky.

A village festival under the August sky

Sparanise under the Stars is the summer festival of the town of Sparanise, in the province of Caserta, within the inland Campania region of Agro Caleno. It takes place in the final weeks of August at the Via G. Marinelli municipal park, a green space in the town center that transforms into an open-air stage for a few evenings: a stage, lights, chairs set out on the lawn, food stalls along the paths, and families arriving on foot after dinner.

It is not a festival built around a big name, but a community event: it is born from the volunteer work of a local association and thrives on word-of-mouth among neighboring towns. It is exactly the kind of gathering that captures the essence of the minor southern summer—the kind that doesn't make it into guidebooks but fills the squares until late at night.

Who organizes it

The festival is curated by the association Sparanise in Festa — Un sorriso per tutti, with the patronage of the Municipality of Sparanise. The same association is active year-round in the town's life and is among the groups that collaborate on the Gran Carnevale Caleno, the historic carnival event in Sparanise which reached its forty-fourth edition in 2026. This dual commitment—winter carnival and summer festival under the stars—shows how local volunteering is the true engine of the town's events.

Music, dance, and Neapolitan tradition

The program for the evenings alternates between genres and audiences, following a well-established formula:

  • White Party night: a strictly white dress code, music ranging from the nineties to today's hits, live bands, and DJ sets until late at night.
  • Dance night: ballroom orchestras, group dances, and folk dances, with the audience filling the space in front of the stage.
  • Neapolitan opera and song: opening moments entrusted to operatic voices interpreting the classic Neapolitan repertoire.
  • La Corrida sotto le Stelle: the amateur talent show that, in previous editions, has brought singers, dancers, impersonators, and amateur comedians from all over the province to the stage, complete with a jury and awards.

The food stalls

Next to the stage, the food stalls managed by volunteers are as much a part of the evening as the music. In past editions, the menu has featured sandwiches with porchetta and sausage, fried seafood with chips, and meatballs, in a village festival style where you eat standing up, chat between dishes, and return to the stage when the music resumes.

Recent editions

In 2024, the festival spanned three evenings in mid-August, featuring the Peppe Zona orchestra for ballroom dance enthusiasts, the White and Disco Party, and the fourth edition of the Corrida sotto le Stelle, which took place on August 22-23 after a weather-related postponement, crowning Pasquale Iuliano as the winner. In 2025, the event, presented as the second edition under the name Sparanise under the Stars, focused on the weekend of August 23 and 24, again at the Villetta Marinelli, starting at 9:00 PM.

Sparanise and the Agro Caleno

Sparanise is located on the plain between Capua and Teano, in an agricultural area known as Agro Caleno, where vines and local produce have always marked the festival calendar. The town celebrates its patron saint, San Vitaliano, on the last Sunday of August and hosts the Wine Festival in the autumn, spanning Piazza Giovanni XXIII, Corso del Popolo, and the alleys of the village. Those arriving for Sparanise under the Stars can easily include the evening in a broader itinerary, being close to the Roman amphitheater of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the Roman theater of Teano, and the Royal Palace of Caserta.

Why go

Because it is a real, unfiltered festival: you enter a village park, find people of all ages, dance on the grass, and eat a porchetta sandwich while watching the stage. For a visitor who wants to understand how summer is experienced in the Caserta hinterland, far from the most beaten tourist paths, it is a more authentic opportunity than many high-profile events.

Sparanise under the Stars — edition 2026

As of today, there are no official announcements regarding the 2026 edition of Sparanise under the Stars: neither the Municipality of Sparanise's website nor the local Caserta press have published dates, times, or the program for the summer festival at Villetta Marinelli. The event has regularly taken place in the second half of August in previous years, so it is reasonable to expect an announcement in the weeks immediately preceding the event, as has happened in the past. It is advisable to follow the organizing association's channels for updates.

2026 Edition: no official dates

For 2026, no dates for Sparanise under the Stars have been announced yet. The sources consulted—the institutional website of the Municipality of Sparanise, in the province of Caserta, and the local press that has covered the event in previous years—do not currently report any press releases regarding the summer festival at Villetta Marinelli.

It should be noted that communication for this event is traditionally very last-minute: in 2025, the full program was released just two days before the opening. The absence of news at the end of July does not mean that the festival will not take place, but simply that the announcement is yet to come.

What to expect

If the formula remains the same as in previous years, it will consist of two or three consecutive evenings in the second half of August, starting around 9:00 PM at the Via G. Marinelli municipal park: live music and DJ sets, an evening dedicated to folk dancing and ballroom orchestras, moments of Neapolitan song and opera, and possibly the amateur talent show 'La Corrida sotto le Stelle', all accompanied by food stalls managed by volunteers.
