Extreme metal by the sea, on the beach of Castel Volturno
The Southammer Metal Fest is the festival that turns the Flava Beach in Castel Volturno, province of Caserta, into an open-air gathering for metalheads every summer. Sun, sand, sea, and distorted riffs coexist in one long day of concerts, from early afternoon until late at night: a rare format in Italy that combines the seaside atmosphere of the Domitian coast with the raw energy of extreme music.
The event carries on the legacy of the S-Hammer Metal Fest, a festival that animated the Caserta and Campania metal scene for years. With its new name, the festival relaunched in 2025 with its first edition at Flava Beach, confirming its status as one of the main metal events in Southern Italy and bringing top-tier national and international acts back to Castel Volturno.
The bill alternates internationally renowned headliners with emerging and established Italian bands, spanning death metal, black metal, thrash, and other extreme sounds. Each edition brings groups from various European countries to the seaside stage, offering the audience a full day of non-stop live music.
The festival is held at Flava Beach, on the coast of Castel Volturno (ZIP 81030), a town in the province of Caserta overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Campania region. Its location on the Domitian coast makes it easily accessible from Naples and Caserta, making it an ideal destination for those who want to combine a day of metal with a day at the beach.
The second edition of the Southammer Metal Fest brought ten bands from the Italian and international metal scene to Flava Beach in Castel Volturno for a long day of concerts on the Domitian coast. Gates opened at 12:30 PM with non-stop live music until midnight, followed by an aftershow until 3 AM.
