The independent film festival on the Domitian coast
The Castel Volturno Film Festival (FCCV) is one of the most vibrant film events on the Domitian coast, in the province of Caserta. Founded in 2018, the festival is dedicated to independent cinema: short films, feature films, documentaries, and animated shorts often produced on limited budgets without the backing of major production houses. Since its inception, the goal has been to establish Castel Volturno as a 'city of cinema,' a territory that has hosted over fifty film productions since the 1960s.
The festival organizes its competition into four main sections, gathering works from across Italy and abroad through a call for entries on the FilmFreeway platform:
Selected works are screened both in-person and on an online platform, expanding the audience well beyond the municipal borders.
The festival is more than just screenings: mornings are often reserved for workshops in local high schools, while a Young Jury composed of students watches the competing films daily, alongside the public jury's vote. Over the years, the festival has benefited from the artistic direction of the late master Carlo Croccolo and is currently led by artistic director Daniela Cenciotti, with organization managed by Titania Teatro.
Supported by the Campania Region (under L.R. 30/2016) and endorsed by the Municipality of Castel Volturno, the Castel Volturno Film Festival serves as an important cultural anchor for a territory often defined by its challenges. Every October, the festival transforms the seaside auditorium in Pinetamare into a meeting point for emerging directors, industry professionals, and passionate audiences, confirming the cinematic vocation of this stretch of the Campanian coast.
The ninth edition (FCCV9) of the Castel Volturno Film Festival takes place from October 19th to 24th, 2026, at the Auditorium del Mare, located at Viale degli Oleandri 40 in Pinetamare (Castel Volturno, province of Caserta). The structure of four competitive sections is confirmed: short films, feature films, documentaries, and animation, with works selected through the call for entries open on the FilmFreeway platform until July 31, 2026.
As per tradition, the festival complements screenings with a rich program of workshops, the activities of the Young Jury and the public jury, as well as a podcast dedicated to the festival. The event is supported by the Campania Region and endorsed by the Municipality of Castel Volturno. The detailed screening schedule and the list of films in competition will be announced on the official website in the weeks leading up to the opening.
Castel Volturno is located on the Domitian coast, in the province of Caserta. By car, it is accessible via the SS Domiziana; the nearest train stations are Villa Literno and Naples, which are connected by bus lines. The reference airport is Naples-Capodichino, approximately 40 km away.
Screenings are held at the Auditorium del Mare, located at Viale degli Oleandri 40 in Pinetamare. Access to screenings of competing works is traditionally free during scheduled hours. For information: [email protected], tel. +39 081 19317469.
