Reggae, ska, and singer-songwriter music in the heart of Capranica
The Skavinia Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Capranica, a village in the Monti Cimini area in the province of Viterbo, in the heart of the Lazio Tuscia. Every July, the scenic Piazza San Francesco, closed to traffic for the occasion, transforms into a large open-air stage where reggae, ska, punk, and Italian singer-songwriter music meet.
The name Skavinia combines ska with the name of Lavinia Bozzo, a young woman from Capranica who passed away at just 27 in a road accident. In her memory, the Lavinia para la Vida – Scialla association was founded, chaired by her father Romolo Bozzo, which organizes the festival in collaboration with the Municipality of Capranica. The event carries forward the values that were dear to Lavinia: a love for freedom and sharing, the defense of civil rights, respect for the environment, and the promotion of the local area.
In just a few editions, Skavinia has established itself as a reference point for the reggae and ska scene in central Italy, attracting top-tier artists. The stage in Capranica has hosted names such as Sud Sound System, Bandabardò, Alborosie, Vallanzaska, and Sick Tamburo, accompanied by DJ sets and emerging talents from the scene.
Skavinia is much more than a music festival. The streets of the historic center host food stalls, street food, food trucks, and craft stands, while artistic projections and light installations create an evocative atmosphere among the medieval alleys of the village. Free admission and its participatory nature make it a collective celebration designed for families, young people, and music enthusiasts.
Located at the foot of the Monti Cimini, between Lake Vico and Viterbo, Capranica is a village rich in history, dominated by the Rocca degli Anguillara and the church of San Francesco. The Skavinia Festival is an ideal opportunity to discover this corner of Lazio, combining the exploration of local historical and architectural heritage with two nights of great live music.
The 2026 edition of the Skavinia Festival brought Piazza San Francesco, in the historic center of Capranica, to life on July 10 and 11 with two nights of free admission. The format was confirmed, combining major live concerts, a food & drink area, street food, and crafts among the village alleys.
Opening of the food area and the second stage from 7:00 PM in Piazza San Francesco, closed to traffic for the occasion.
By car: Capranica can be reached via the SS Cassia (Via Cassia) and the Orte-Viterbo expressway. Recommended parking: Piazzale dei Lavoratori (about a 9-minute walk), Piazzale delle Rimembranze (about 12 minutes), and the COOP parking lot (about 14 minutes).
The Capranica-Sutri station is served by the Rome-Viterbo regional line; from the station, the historic center can be reached in a few minutes.
Free admission. The evenings begin at 7:00 PM with the opening of the food & drink area and the second stage. Piazza San Francesco is closed to traffic during the festival.
