The LGBTQIA+ pride parade that colors the streets of Syracuse
Siracusa Pride is the major LGBTQIA+ pride event in the Syracuse area. Every summer, the streets of the historic center of Syracuse, in southeastern Sicily, fill with rainbow flags, music, and thousands of people marching to demand rights, equal dignity, and freedom. More than just a parade, it is a collective moment of visibility and celebration that involves the entire city community, with a perspective that embraces the whole province.
Born around 2014, Siracusa Pride has grown edition after edition, becoming one of the most attended events in eastern Sicily. Over the years, the event has featured prominent national figures as godmothers, such as Vladimir Luxuria in 2023 and the rapper and activist Big Mama in 2025, a sign of the significance the event has gained well beyond provincial borders.
The Pride does not end on the day of the parade: in the weeks leading up to the march, the official calendar offers a dense program of meetings, debates, book presentations, talks, shows, and moments of cultural and political reflection. It is a journey that accompanies the city toward the main day, intertwining activism, art, and social life.
The central moment is the grand parade that crosses the center of Syracuse to reach Piazza Archimede, in the heart of the island of Ortigia. The route touches some of the city's main arteries, passing through the Ponte Umbertino that connects the mainland to the ancient island, in an itinerary that is also a symbolic crossing of urban spaces. The parade generally concludes with speeches from the stage and a great celebration.
The organization is entrusted to a broad Pride Committee that brings together numerous local entities, with a central role played by Arcigay Siracusa and the participation of associations such as Agedo, Arci, trade unions, and numerous cultural and social groups. This network makes Siracusa Pride not just an event, but a bastion of rights rooted in the fabric of the city and the Sicilian Region.
Siracusa Pride 2026 will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, as officially announced by the organizing committee in February 2026. The event is promoted by a committee composed of seventeen local organizations, including Arcigay Siracusa, Agedo Siracusa, and Arci Siracusa, as well as trade unions and numerous cultural and social entities.
At the time of the announcement, the parade route, the name of the godmother, and the full calendar of side events have not yet been made public: the committee has stated that all details will be released in the following months through official channels and the press. As in previous editions, a month of initiatives including meetings, debates, and shows is expected to accompany the city toward the day of the parade.
Syracuse is accessible by car via the A18/SS114 motorway; the train station is connected to the main Sicilian cities. The nearest airports are Catania Fontanarossa (about an hour away) and Comiso.
The parade crosses the historic center of Syracuse and ends in Piazza Archimede, in Ortigia. The area is pedestrianized and has limited traffic: the use of park-and-ride facilities and walking is recommended.
Participation in the parade is free and open to all. Some side events and the after-party may require separate entry fees or purchases.
The event takes place in the middle of summer: bring water, sunscreen, and light clothing. For the final times and route, it is recommended to check the official Pride channels.
