The queen of the Sicilian summer takes over the main square in Pedara, on the slopes of Mount Etna
In the heart of Pedara, a charming town in the Etna hinterland in the province of Catania, the Sicilian Artisanal Granita Festival transforms Piazza Don Bosco into a large open-air lounge dedicated to one of Sicily's most iconic treats. Here, granita is not just a simple dessert: it is a daily summer ritual, strictly to be enjoyed with a brioche col tuppo, and in Pedara, it becomes the perfect excuse for a public event centered on taste, tradition, and conviviality.
Throughout the festival, tasting stalls offer granita in every flavor and color imaginable: from the great classics like lemon, almond, strawberry, coffee, and chocolate to bolder, more creative variations prepared with local ingredients, such as basil and lemon, prickly pear, pomegranate, ricotta and cinnamon, or even mojito. Accompanying them, of course, are the essential, freshly baked Sicilian brioche col tuppo.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Pedara, through the Department of Tourism and Leisure, with the patronage of the Sicilian Region. Admission is free, and the event, traditionally held in June, attracts visitors every year from Catania and neighboring towns, thanks to Pedara's location on the slopes of Mount Etna, just a few kilometers from both the city and the mountain's tourist centers.
More than just a simple food festival, the Granita Festival is an opportunity to rediscover a product deeply linked to the Sicilian identity, told directly by those who produce it. Between an evening stroll through the historic center, a granita enjoyed in the square, and live music, the event offers an authentic taste of summer Sicilian spirit in a festive atmosphere suitable for all ages.
The 2026 edition of the Sicilian Artisanal Granita Festival is scheduled in Pedara (CT) in the month of June, once again in Piazza Don Bosco. At the moment, the exact dates and the detailed 2026 program have not yet been published: the organization has announced that the full program will be released shortly.
While awaiting official updates, the event is expected to confirm its proven formula: tasting stalls with granita of all flavors, brioche col tuppo, show cooking with chefs and master gelato makers, craft markets, musical shows, and family entertainment. Admission will be free.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition (exact dates, musical guests, and times) has not yet been published by the organizers. It will be announced soon on the official channels of the Municipality of Pedara. Based on previous editions, the festival spans three evenings in Piazza Don Bosco with granita tasting stalls, show cooking, demonstrations by master gelato makers, craft markets, live music, and entertainment for children.
Pedara is located about 15 km from Catania, on the southeastern slopes of Mount Etna. By car, it is easily reached from the city by taking the road that climbs towards Nicolosi and the Etna towns. Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is about 25 km away. The festival takes place in Piazza Don Bosco, in the town center.
The event takes place in the evening, roughly from 6:00 PM to midnight. Admission is free; tastings of granita, brioche, and local products are paid for at individual stalls.
