Montallegro's summer festival celebrating the dry-farmed tomato
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of summer, the town of Montallegro, a small village in the province of Agrigento overlooking the southwestern coast of Sicily, dedicates a festival to its signature product: the siccagno tomato. The Siccagno Tomato Festival is a culinary event promoted by the Municipality of Montallegro in collaboration with the local Pro Loco, which for years has attracted residents, returning emigrants, and visitors from neighboring towns.
The siccagno tomato owes its name to the 'dry' cultivation technique: it grows without irrigation, relying solely on rainwater and soil moisture. This traditional farming method, typical of the Agrigento hinterland, produces a small, sweet fruit with a particularly intense and concentrated taste, perfect for sauces and preserves. The festival was created specifically to showcase this agricultural excellence and the rural identity of the area, while supporting local producers.
The event takes place in the town center, with its main hub in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II. Throughout the evenings, the program alternates between taste, tradition, and entertainment:
More than just a food festival, the event is a moment of celebration for the entire Montallegro community: an opportunity to rediscover the town's farming roots, gather in the squares on warm August evenings, and introduce visitors to an authentic Sicilian product. The event is part of the rich calendar of summer festivals in the province of Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples.
The Siccagno Tomato Festival in Montallegro is expected to return in the summer of 2026, confirming the traditional appointment in the first days of August. As of the publication date of this page, however, the official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Montallegro and the Pro Loco.
The event is expected to take place in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, with tastings of dishes based on siccagno tomatoes, an artisan market, shows, and live music. To find out the final calendar, we recommend following the official channels of the Pro Loco Montallegro.
