The non-competitive evening walk through the trails of the Modena Apennines
The Polinago Stage is part of Sentieri Comuni, a widespread project that annually transforms the Modena and Reggio Emilia Apennines into a large shared itinerary. From April to October, a series of non-competitive walks visits ten municipalities between the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia — Sassuolo, Monchio, Baiso, Toano, Polinago, Palagano, Frassinoro, Piane di Mocogno, Carpineti, Casalgrande, and Castellarano — offering a different route at each event, curated by local associations.
In the territory of the Municipality of Polinago, a high hill town at about 810 meters above sea level in the Province of Modena, the event is organized by Proloco Polinago, one of the associations animating the project. The walk is one of the few evening versions of the season: it starts in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset light on the ridges. The route winds through the trails, woods, and hamlets of this corner of the Apennines, a territory rich in history, traditions, and intact natural landscapes. The excursion is easy, suitable for everyone, between 6 and 10 kilometers long, and with a maximum duration of about three hours.
Sentieri Comuni was born from the desire to share paths, both of life and of the territory. More than a sporting event, it is an opportunity for social interaction and slow discovery: participants walk together, accompanied by volunteers, get to know the landscapes and communities of the Apennines, and at the end of each stage, they share a refreshment offered by the organizing association. The project, also supported by the Province of Modena and part of the Emilia-Romagna Region context, also offers a booklet with maps, a digital guide to the routes on Wikiloc via QR code, and a "walker's passport" with stamps to collect at each walk.
The fourth edition of Sentieri Comuni brings its stage to Polinago on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in a charming evening version. The walk, curated by Proloco Polinago, offers an easy, non-competitive route along the trails of the Modena Apennines, included in the widespread calendar that from April to October 2026 covers ten municipalities between the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia. As every year, participants can collect stamps on their "walker's passport".
The Polinago stage is one of eleven in the 2026 edition, within the calendar: April 19 Sassuolo, May 10 Monchio, June 7 Baiso (evening), June 14 Toano, July 1 Polinago (evening), July 19 Palagano, August 23 Frassinoro, August 30 Carpineti, September 6 Casalgrande, October 4 Castellarano.
The meeting time and precise starting point will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event on the Sentieri Comuni channels (website, Facebook, and Instagram).
The Polinago stage of the 2026 edition is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in the evening.
Polinago can be reached by car from the Modena plain, heading towards the Apennines along the SP for Pavullo nel Frignano and the high hills. Car is recommended: public transport connections to small Apennine towns are limited, especially in the evening.
The participation fee is 5 euros per person (free for under 14s) and includes accompaniment and the final refreshment.
Wear trekking or walking shoes, bring water and clothing suitable for the hilly weather. As it is an evening stage, it is useful to bring a headlamp for the return journey. Information and updated calendar at sentiericomuni.it or by writing to [email protected].
