The travelling literature and music festival of the Chisone Valley, based in the heart of Perosa Argentina
The Scritto Misto Literature and Music Festival is one of the most beloved summer cultural events in the Pinerolo valleys, in the province of Turin. Established in 2015 and organised by the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation of Torre Pellice, the festival offers a travelling itinerary that blends literature with music, weaving contemporary fiction with historical non-fiction and the musical traditions of the Occitan and Waldensian valleys.
Among the three towns hosting Scritto Misto, Perosa Argentina plays a central role: it is here, at the entrance to the Chisone Valley, that the festival kicks off every year. The meetings take place in the town's squares and open spaces, where book presentations and dialogues with authors alternate with musical performances. This is the formula that gives the festival its name, "Scritto Misto" (Mixed Writing): every event blends words and notes, while also leaving room for direct interaction with the audience.
Over the years, writers, historians, and journalists from the national and Piedmontese scene have joined musicians, choirs, and chamber ensembles linked to the local area in Perosa Argentina and the other towns. The programme ranges from the memory of the Resistance to major current affairs, from civil rights to life stories, always accompanied by tastings of local products that conclude many of the days.
The 12th edition, scheduled from July 11 to August 2, 2026, revolves around the theme HUMAN/INHUMAN, a common thread that will run through all the meetings between Perosa Argentina, Fenestrelle, and Usseaux. Presented at the Turin International Book Fair, the festival once again invites writers and musicians to reflect on a shared theme, bringing contemporary thought into dialogue with the historical and cultural memory of these mountains. The detailed programme will be announced by the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation closer to the event.
Participating in Scritto Misto also means discovering an authentic corner of Piedmont: the Chisone Valley, its stone hamlets, the majestic Fenestrelle Fortress, and the alpine landscapes that frame the meetings. The festival is designed for an audience that loves combining culture with slow tourism and the open air of the mountains, just over an hour from Turin.
The 12th edition of the Scritto Misto Literature and Music Festival, presented at the Turin International Book Fair, confirms the festival's travelling formula: events are distributed between Perosa Argentina, the Fenestrelle Fortress, and Usseaux, in the province of Turin, from July 11 to August 2, 2026.
This year's theme is HUMAN/INHUMAN, a reflection on the boundary between humanity and inhumanity in the contemporary world, explored through literature, historical non-fiction, and music. As every year, the meetings combine book presentations and dialogues with authors with musical performances linked to the local area.
The detailed programme for the 12th edition will be announced by the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation closer to the event.
As per tradition, the festival opens in Perosa Argentina and then continues to the Fenestrelle Fortress and Usseaux. Each event alternates a book presentation or a dialogue with the author with a musical performance, with meetings generally held in the late afternoon and tastings of local products closing many of the days. The names of the guest writers and musicians will be announced with the publication of the full programme on the official website.
Perosa Argentina can be reached by car from Turin in about an hour, travelling up the Chisone Valley along the SS23 Sestriere road. The town is also served by public transport from Pinerolo.
The events take place in the summer, between July and August, generally in the late afternoon. The detailed programme for the 2026 edition is published on the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation website.
The meetings are generally free of charge. For times, precise locations, and updates, it is recommended to consult the Foundation's official channels (tel. +39 0121 932179).
We recommend comfortable clothing and a jacket for the evening, given the mountain climate even in the height of summer. Many days conclude with a tasting of local products.
