The Scrima district's living nativity returns to Boville Ernica after fifteen years
In December 2025, the Scrima district of Boville Ernica, a village in the province of Frosinone in the Lazio region, revived one of its most cherished traditions: the Living Nativity. After a fifteen-year break, a group of local residents decided to restage the Nativity, forming the newly established Associazione Tradizione Scrima, which now boasts over forty-five members.
The display covers approximately 5,000 square meters, meticulously prepared by the committee members in front of the "Fabrizio De André" elementary school in the Scrima district. Along the path, visitors encounter mills, waterfalls, artisan workshops, rural settings, and scenes of daily life, brought to life by costumed performers portraying traditional crafts and nativity figures, culminating in the scene of the Baby Jesus. It is a reconstruction that weaves together popular devotion and the rural heritage of the Ciociaria region.
The Scrima Living Nativity is not just a religious representation, but a community project involving the entire district. The official opening, celebrated on December 26, 2025, with a blessing following Holy Mass, was accompanied by food and wine stalls featuring local products and festive moments for families, such as the traditional tombola and the Befana Festival with free stockings for children.
Boville Ernica is a historic village nestled in the hills of the Ciociaria, famous for its medieval center and an artistic heritage rooted in antiquity. The return of the nativity to Scrima is part of a Christmas calendar that the municipality has been promoting for years, offering visitors another reason to discover the traditions and hospitality of this corner of southern Lazio.
Admission to the nativity is free. The large turnout at the inauguration, with visitors arriving from outside the region, prompted the association to organize a repeat performance in the following days, confirming how eagerly this tradition was awaited by the community.
The strong influx of visitors recorded at the inauguration on December 26, 2025, with attendees from outside the region, prompted the Associazione Tradizione Scrima to organize a repeat performance on January 4, 2026.
