Authentic flavors, music, and fun in the heart of the Nebrodi mountains
In the heart of the Nebrodi mountains, the village of San Piero Patti, in the province of Messina, hosts the annual Schiticchio di Primavera: the spring edition of a food and wine festival dedicated to the area's authentic flavors. The name says it all: in the Sicilian dialect, a "schiticchio" is a small, convivial meal enjoyed outdoors with friends and relatives, which here transforms into two days of taste, music, and tradition throughout the historic center.
The heart of the event features over fifteen food stalls and exhibition stands, showcasing specialties prepared with seasonal products and ingredients sourced primarily from local, zero-kilometer farms. This festival focuses on quality, seasonality, and artisanal craftsmanship, values upheld through the collaboration of Slow Food Nebrodi and Coldiretti Messina. Along the village's main streets, the zero-kilometer farmers' market comes to life, serving as a showcase for producers from the Nebrodi territory.
Beyond the culinary delights, the Schiticchio is also a spectacle: live cooking demonstrations, entertainment, concerts, DJ sets, tasting areas, thematic workshops, guided tours of the village, and a dedicated play area for children make the event suitable for all ages. One of the most anticipated attractions is the "Aspettando Indiegeno Fest" event, hosted in the evocative setting of the Carmelite Convent, which brings artists from the Italian pop and indie scene to San Piero Patti.
Established in 2022 to highlight quality food and local products, the Schiticchio has become a staple of the Nebrodi Sicily calendar, with an autumn edition linked to the feast of Saint Martin and this spring version. Visiting is also the perfect opportunity to discover San Piero Patti, an ancient village perched among the hills of Messina, its historic center, its churches, and the warm hospitality typical of the province.
The 2026 edition of the Schiticchio di Primavera in San Piero Patti, under the theme "The Taste of Tradition," brought the Nebrodi village to life for two days. The heart of the festival featured food stalls with seasonal specialties and zero-kilometer products, accompanied by live cooking demonstrations, musical entertainment, and family activities. The event was organized by the municipal administration with the support of Slow Food Nebrodi and Coldiretti Messina.
San Piero Patti is located in the Nebrodi mountains, in the province of Messina. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Patti-San Piero Patti exit and continuing inland. The nearest train station is Patti-San Piero Patti on the Tyrrhenian line.
The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday. Food stalls open on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, with the zero-kilometer market located in the village's main streets.
Admission to the event is free; tastings and dishes at the food stalls are available for purchase.
