About Scandicci Concerts

The Scandicci City Concerts represent a historic chamber music season promoted by the Centro dell'Arte Vito Frazzi in the "Orazio Barbieri" City Council Hall. Reaching its 70th edition in 2026, the festival brings together young and emerging Italian concert talents every year for a series of free Sunday performances, featuring works by Brahms, Schumann, Schubert, Mozart, Faurรฉ, and the great chamber repertoire. A high-quality cultural event in the heart of the town just outside Florence.

Seventy years of musical tradition in Scandicci

The Scandicci City Concerts are one of the longest-running chamber music festivals in Tuscany. Promoted by the Centro dell'Arte Vito Frazzi with the support of the Municipality of Scandicci, in the province of Florence, the concert season celebrates its 70th edition in 2026โ€”a milestone that highlights the deep roots of this event in the cultural life of the city and the entire Florentine metropolitan area.

The concerts are held in the "Orazio Barbieri" City Council Hall, located in Piazzale della Resistenza. This intimate, acoustically refined space has been welcoming classical music enthusiasts for decades. Admission is free, reflecting the festival's long-standing commitment to making music culture accessible to all.

The 2026 Winter Season (70th Edition)

The new winter season consists of six Sunday appointments, running from January to March 2026. The artistic direction, led by Daniela De Santis, Francesca Piccioni, and Sara Nanni, has curated a compelling program that remains faithful to the festival's historic mission: providing a stage for young and emerging talents from the national concert scene while showcasing the great chamber repertoire.

  • Sunday, January 18, 11:00 AM โ€” Viola and piano duo with Simona Collu (viola) and Sebastiano Suvini (piano), featuring music by Brahms, Schumann, and Schubert;
  • Sunday, January 25, 11:00 AM โ€” Piano recital by Matteo Cabras, featuring works by Mozart and Tchaikovsky;
  • Sunday, February 8, 5:00 PM โ€” Concert by the Florence Acco Quartet, an accordion ensemble;
  • Sunday, February 22, 11:00 AM โ€” Jin-Mazzocchi-Castellano-Cecino Quartet, performing Mozart's Quartet No. 2 in E-flat major and Faurรฉ's Quartet No. 2 in G minor;
  • Sunday, March 8, 5:00 PM โ€” Metamorphosis String Quartet;
  • Sunday, March 22, 5:00 PM โ€” Cello and piano duo with Francesco Stefanelli (cello) and Nicola Pantani (piano), closing the season.

Chamber music and new generations

The common thread of the festival is the promotion of young performers. Many of the featured musicians are winners of national and international competitions or are just beginning their concert careers, offering the audience a chance to discover the emerging voices of Italian classical music. The repertoire ranges from Viennese Classicism to Romanticism, spanning from solo piano literature to string quartets, with occasional forays into less conventional formations like the accordion ensemble.

Part of Scandicci Open City Winter

The Scandicci City Concerts are part of the broader Scandicci Open City Winter calendar, a program of cultural initiatives that brings the Scandicci winter to life with dozens of events including theater, music, cinema, and circus. The concert series serves as its classical soul, confirming Scandicci as a vibrant cultural hub just outside Florence, easily accessible via the tram line connecting it to the Tuscan capital.
